Verrioth did not anticipate his attraction to a human of all things. A human sorceress, even less so. Wizards were commonplace in Vumox. As were harpies, nymphs, centaur... Plenty of things that would have a lesser being flinching and running for the hills were they not familiar with myth. Sorceresses were different; special. It took an incredible amount of magic to be considered a tier above a witch or wizard, as magic in it's most basic form was feared as much as it was powerful. Zenais of Orilon was not what one pictured when they would think of sorcery. Magic was a force of nature, all-consuming with the potential for mass destruction. Most assumed this meant that even to harness this power, it would wear on the host's body until naught was left but a husk. Not even that if the tales were wild and exaggerated enough, such as rags of old clothing and bones ground into dust.

This was not so for Zenais. Were there a purer, more beautiful being in the entire realm, Verrioth had never happened upon them. His desire to have and love her rivaled that even of his lust for gold. What is a dragon without his greed? Hair as fiery and bright as a cardinal's plumage with eyes that told of a far-off glittering sea. The pressure that squeezed his chest was an unfamiliar and terrifying prospect, caressing and encompassing until he gasps to satisfying his burning lungs. When she turns her jewels of eyes to him, porcelain skin that reflects the bronze of the setting sun, yes, he knows he must have her.

Something changes in the legends after they're wed. It's a happy life; one, despite Zenais' human blood, will continue unfettered by time. She will sustain herself with magic until the time comes when she's no longer interested in this life. Dragons are immortal. Provided they were careful, the two of them could coexist as long as they wanted. It goes like this for hundreds of years. Aside from a few extra scars and changes in scenery every fifty or so years, nothing changes. With Lord Verrioth's unbridled strength and Lady Zenais' extraordinary magic, they become confident in their survival. It is a worthy life to bring a child into.

𝖎𝖎𝖎.
Enter Xhuawei.

Never has there been a more innocent and pragmatic child. Every wish, every task, every request from either his father or Zenais is met with absolute obedience. Above all, Xhuawei strives to please them. He is lavished with gifts and attention until it becomes practically unbearable. It is the perks of being an only child, and for the first two hundred years of his life, Wei is very, very happy. It is not until he matures and leaves the nest does he become cynical and greedy. His relationship with his parents remains strong--as it always shall--but deeply internalized conflict becomes the bane of Wei's existence. It is of no fault of his mother or father, but instead the nature of his blood.

It isn't long before the stories of his reign of terror spreads across the continent. He is depicted as a merciless drake, with shining black scales and a mane of pure fire. His eyes are said to be so full of hate that to gaze at them long enough is to wish for death itself. In the darker tales, deserters of the High King's army purposely seek out Xhuawei and beg for a violent death. Ultimately, they're all just embellished stories and elaborate bard songs. Wei's rage is the truest aspect about them.
