Miara is able to understand what animals and beastclan are communicating amongst themselves, but is unable to talk to them herself. Leomaris, her uncle, has invited her to help him look after the familiars, since she can hear them expressing problems to one another.

She's working on a classification to distinguish between different dialects (or perhaps languages in their own right) of different beastclans.
