A charcoal coatl limped and crawled through the snowy valleys of the Cloudscrape Crags. Long scars covered her body. A series of eerie, cold howling echoed through the mountain air.
Invisible against the ever-freezing snow, a pack of hungry Winter Wolves was on the move.
The coalt fell to the cold snow; Tears fell from her eyes, she looked up to the sky.
She longed to be in the air, for the ability to fly. Her wings, slashed and bloody, hung limply at her sides.
On the horizon a multitude of colorful bright balloons danced merrily, tossed by the Windswept Plateau's winds. The coatl wished one of those balloons would be blown to her and carry her away.
The howling grew louder, the pack was quickly approaching.
The coalt cried loud, praying that something would save her from the wolves.
Cold blue eyes glowed in the shadows; The wolves crept toward the injured dragon.
"Please, no." the dragon whimpered.
The wolves lunged forward, the largest of the pack in the lead.
The large white wolf leaped on the coatl back and sunk it's teeth in her neck.
The dragon bucked, trying to free herself; A deep groan rumbled through the icy surface, followed by a series of sharp clicks, and ,with a whooshing, the cold ground gave away. The dragon and wolf fell through the newly open crevice.
The coatl landed hard on the cave floor; She slowly opened her eyes. The wolf laid unconscious on the cave floor. It grunted softly and began to awaken.
The coalt pushed her tired legs and rose from cold ground. She took a few steps and fell again. The Winter Wolf growled as it regained it's senses and got to it's feet. It crept forward, teeth glistening in the light streaming from the cave opening. The coatl struggled to get back on her feet; The wolf pressed it's paw on her long tail causing her to fall back to the ground.
Tears fell from the dragon's eyes, the wolf snarled as it jumped on her back and began biting; A suddent flash of purple light fullt illuminated the cave. A small idol, in the shape of a dragon, poked from a rock pile a few feet from the coatl; It glowed a furious purple.
The idol shook, freed itself from the rumble, a hovered above the coatl.
The wolf jumped off the dragon, snarled, and swiped at the glowing idol. The idol's glow pulsed; A blinding beam shot from the idol and struck the wolf. The wolf froze and, with a yelp, vanished from the cave.
The idol stopped glowing and fell to the ground.
The coatl slowly struggled to push herself up to her feet and walked to the idol.
"T-Thank you."
She laid next to the motionless idol.
"Thank you."
