Biography
Kalrey's life has always been marked by the Shade. Her home clan, when she hatched, was just barely recovered from a huge turmoil caused by an incursion of the dreaded entity. The stories and whispers she heard growing up filled her with a mix of horror and curiosity. Any questions on the subject, though, were met with a stony silence at best, or outright hostility at worst. The hostility, in particular, began to grow as she grew into her adult coloration and dark streaks appeared on her wings. Folks began to talk - never to her face - about "what if" and "could it be. . .?", implying that perhaps she had been touched by whatever lingering remnants of the Shade's energy may have somehow made it through the fight and followed the clan to their new home.
Soon enough these looks and comments drove her to leave the clan and seek out a new home. Somewhere she could learn about the Shade and how to fight it off, as well as proving to the world that she was not touched by its corruptions. And so she began to wander, eventually making her way down into the ruins of the Hewn City, a place long rumored to harbor pockets of Shade activity.
It was there that she encountered a small group of researchers from an organization they called the Legacy Enclave. Rather than being put off by her story, or treating her as a danger or oddity, the team was eager to have her assistance. As they saw it, her experience with the Shade, secondhand though it was, was still more direct than any of the other team members. She happily joined them, eventually following them back home to the lair to join the pack.
Now that she's an official member of the Enclave, she's been placed in charge of ongoing research into the Shade, specifically tasked with ways to push back against active incursions. It's this particular line of research that has her working with Lumesce, seeking to find a way to use his non-elemental light manipulation to drive it away. Of course, even if it weren't for the research, she'd be spending much of her time with him anyway, as the two quickly bonded after they started working together, first as friends and soon after as more than that.
