P I X I E
THE ORACLE
R E L A T I O N S 28119503.png LOVER
From the beginning, Pixie was taught to believe in fate. She hatched in an ancient clan inhabiting the Tempest Spire and one of the first things she learned was how to read the stars. On clear nights, when the sky shimmered faintly through a parting in the storm clouds, Pixie’s parents would take her and her sister, Jewel, up to one of the tower’s spires where they would look upon the stars. Pixie stared up at the pale flecks of light that dotted the midnight sky. She can still remember her parents’ words, “the stars hold all of our destinies. They will show you the future if you know what to look for”. Under her parent’s guidance, Pixie learned to read the stars. She became an oracle, traveling between clans and preaching of the destinies that the stars foretold. It was in this manner that Pixie came to the Southern Icefield. She was taken in by an ice clan residing in the Fortress of Ends who offered her shelter in exchange for reading their fates. Pixie frowned as she looked at the stars. Unreadable. It was impossible and yet, the stars only flickered with uncertainty when Pixie attempted to uncover the clan’s future. The future here was unknown, but something about this uncertainty was inciting to Pixie. She decided to stay.
While Pixie could no longer foretell the future of her clan, the stars still aided her in uncovering information about recent events. If an object went missing, the Skydancer would always know where it ended up. Even when a mysterious dragon snuck into the clan, the stars remembered him when no one else could. Pixie was intrigued. . . the heavens told her that someone had come and, even more curious, they’d left something behind. The Skydancer asked around, but no one remembered seeing an intruder. As for the hatchling, she fit into the clan eerily well. If the stars hadn’t told Pixie about the strange Imperial, she would have thought the hatchling had been a member of the clan all along. When the strange dragon returned, Pixie was the only one to know who he was. “Hey!” she shouted, “I recognize you! What were you doing here the other night?” The other Skydancer stared at her with wide eyes before a look of relief washed over his face, “You. You remember me?” he questioned tentatively.
If it weren’t for the stars, Pixie would have forgotten Azazel just like every other dragon who encountered him. She was the only one who remembered and Azazel returned to the Southern Icefield to visit her often. He told her all manners of fantastic tales, and even if she didn’t remember them, the stars would always remind her. Over time, Pixie and Azazel became a pair, although they never stayed together for long. It was too dangerous, Azazel had said and he promised to visit her as often as he could. For Pixie, however, life was difficult. Azazel always came back to help raise hatchlings, but none of the other dragons in the clan could remember him. They glanced at Pixie suspiciously when they saw her ‘fatherless' nests and offspring. “I’ve never seen her with a mate” they would whisper, “perhaps she steals the eggs. . .”. Despite the suspicious glances that Pixie receives, she is still happy. When the night is clear, she travels up to an icy crag and stares at the stars. They flicker and swirl with uncertainty about the future, but every once in a while, the Skydancer glimpses something. “I don’t know what will happen in the future” Pixie replies when dragons ask her of their fates, “but the stars tell me it is bright”.
