When Crest began speaking with things that weren’t there, no one questioned it. The young skydancer was simply making up imaginary friends to help cope with his night terrors. It seemed to be working, so the adults let him continue. He was always very social, but never made any long-term friends. After all, he already had all the friends he needed. Everyone thought this was cute, but as he grew older, he didn’t grow out of it. His father yelled at him to put those childish things behind him, while Crest insisted his friends were real. He swore that he could see the ghosts of his father’s victims, and made a pact with them, saying the spirits would protect the child as long as he kept his father from taking anyone else’s life. The clan was shocked by this, especially Contrast.

Contrast now claims Crest is not his son, and never visits his family. He has, however, stopped killing, for fear that maybe, just maybe, Crest was right. In fact, he was. Crest never lost faith that his ghostly companions were there, protecting him from all manner of harm. They have saved his life on more than one occasion. The boy now goes as Crestfallen the Communicator, as an insult to his father and homage to the “imaginary friends” that watch over him.
