Personality: Beyra is a gruff, irritable dragon with no patience for fools. She is a very proud warrior, and would sooner die than surrender an inch to fear or intimidation. A long life alone in the harsh wilds has left her with a profoundly cynical attitude. She sees most people- be they dragon or beastclan- as inherently self-serving and corrupt. Many consider her a heartless monster, and it isn’t hard to see why given her willingness to brutally injure or even kill when it’s necessary. However, underneath the the battle hardened exterior is a tired old dragoness with a dry sense of humor and a quiet devotion to the frozen forests that are her home.

History: Beyra spent a long, hardy life as a loner, fighting for her survival and winning. With no clan to depend on in an environment as harsh as the Southern Icefields, her options were to become as hard as ice herself to survive, or die. She chose the former, gradually gaining infamy as the Scourge of the Snows, a figure near-mythical in the tundra that was both feared and hated.

One day, when her fangs were starting to go dull and yellow with age and a growing ache nagged at her joints on the coldest of winter nights, Beyra stumbled across a small fluffy orange and red form half-buried in the snow. Scooping the frost aside, she realized that it was a hatchling coatl- and though its eyes were still firmly shut, the fragments of egg all around it advertised the little one as being of the Fire flight. The tiny creature was not at all suited to the cold, and was rapidly becoming hypothermic. Though more than willing to kill adult dragons who attacked her or tried to steal her food, she wasn’t so heartless as to abandon a helpless baby to the elements. Beyra curled her fluffy wildclaw underbelly around the near-frozen hatchling, warming it back up enough that it wasn’t on death’s door anymore. Then Beyra set about trying to find a friendly clan that might be willing to take the hatchling in. It took a while- most clans she came across were wary of her and attacked on sight- but finally Beyra came to the border of Clan Brayuh, where the imperial Ludwig was presently patrolling the borders. Being a recent immigrant to the Icefields he wasn't aware of Beyra’s infamy and politely allowed her to explain her errand.

Clan Brayuh was of course more than willing to take in the orphan, naming her Pele. They gave Pele straight to their healer to tend until she was strong enough to join the other hatchlings in the nesting grounds. Beyra, having held on to the coatl for a good few weeks and become thoroughly invested in her wellbeing, skirted the edges of Clan Brayuh territory to keep tabs on her charge, chasing away any threats that tried to slip in. Eventually the clan asked if Beyra if she wanted to join them- and she refused. Another few weeks passed, and still she lingered in the area, and the clan asked again- and again she refused.

The clan leader, Belial, having once been a rogue himself, realized that Beyra would never accept an offer of charity, but that she might be willing to bend her pride and do what she clearly wanted to do anyway if she were bested in combat. To that end, the captain of the clan’s guard, Anri, challenged Beyra to a fight- if Anri won, Beyra had to join the clan, if Beyra won she could continue to live as a rogue. Intrigued and amused, Beyra accepted the challenge. It was a very close- and very fierce- battle, one that mothers still tell their hatchlings in the clan to this day, but eventually Anri was finally able to get the better of the aging wildclaw, and Berya acknowledged the fae as her better and agreed to join the clan’s lair guard under Anri’s command.
