P E R S O N A L I T Y
On surface level, Emerson is an optimistic, carefree, and admittedly somewhat naive dragon who thrives in social situations and makes a point to talk to everyone, whether he knows them or not. He likes to make new connections and hear about the way others see the world. He's not without his layers, though, and harbours a certain greed for power that, if left unchecked, could put himself or those around him in peril. For now, he's resigned to being seen as little more than the happy-go-lucky coatl who stumbled into a cult that's way over his head. Being underestimated is an advantage, after all.

B I O G R A P H Y

As a follower of the Dreamshine Cult, Emerson possesses unique supernatural abilities. Unlike Sirius's exorcisms and baptisms, however, Emerson's power is based on elemental manipulation. Hailing from the Light flight originally, his source of power comes from the sun, though he is significantly weaker during the night. However, he can still draw a small amount of energy from the sun's reflection on the moon and the distant stars. Although, he is almost entirely powerless during a new moon. His most notable spell allows him to create a small source of starlight, which emits all the warmth of a giant bonfire. This artificial light tends to combust spontaneously, however. While Emerson's power is great, he still has much to learn in order to stabilize his magic.

Other spells Emerson is capable of include creating a miniature meteor shower, contact with which could scald off the skin of any creature not protected by the scales of a dragon, as well as temporarily manipulating the light in a small area to become invisible, essentially. This is really an optical illusion of sorts, which disrupts the natural emission of light to avoid his body for a short time. This particular skill is highly unrefined, though, and Emerson can only maintain the illusion for a few seconds at most. The spell is useful in situations wherein Emerson needs to escape quickly, such as when he encounters an aggressive adversary he knows he cannot win against.

While Emerson is indeed a loyal follower of the Dreamshine Cult's ideals, his opinion of Sirius as the head priest isn't as high as it should be. He does admire and strive to emulate certain characteristics he thinks are befitting of the cult leader, but overall he believes Sirius is too fearful for his own good. Emerson thinks he would be a much better priest, of whom the Arcanist would be proud. However, for now, he lies in wait for the perfect moment to seize power. After much careful studying and calculation, Emerson has determined that Sirius is no match for his abilities (albeit a match of skill would still be a bit skewed to one side...)

As per his plans for treachery, Emerson neglects to mention these thoughts during their monthly sermons wherein they are encouraged to share such things. He suspects Skartava is none the wiser, spilling her secrets like a broken water pipe. The only things she can keep to herself are those which concern the cult's oath of secrecy. Emerson will admit that his fellow cultist is faithful to a fault. He wonders how Skartava will take to a new head priest when the time finally arises.

Outside of his cultist views, Emerson is actually quite sociable and decidedly less treasonous. He was one of the many who nominated Desdemonia to take the throne as the new clan matriarch, despite having the perfect opportunity to take control of the entire clan, rather than just the cult. His goals don't concern the clan, however. He is more than satisfied to let it live its peaceful way of life, just like how he intends to run the cult. Once he is the head priest, he will do away with that silly oath Sirius forced them to take.

It has only served to demonize the Dreamshine Cult and shun all three of them from the rest of the clan. Even though their clanmates have ostracized Sirius far more than Emerson or Skartava, he still takes it as a personal insult that their leader has allowed their cult to be treated so poorly. The last thing he wants is the clan's pity for supposedly (and might he say, incredulously) being "brainwashed". What a ridiculous idea! As if Sirius could ever be powerful enough to control his mind. Not even in his wildest of dreams!
