For the longest time, Tephra was the one that kept the underground labs in working order. When it was just her and Valens running the clan's science department, she was responsible for much of the practical side of things. This included supplying Valens with coffee, reminding him to sleep, organizing shipments, keeping track of records, monitoring experiments, and generally making sure the whole place didn't blow sky-high and take half the castle with it. It was a strenuous job, both mentally and physically, and one well suited to her abilities as a Spiral. Next to the overworked Imperial, she often appears to be the calmer and more level-headed of the two.

As the clan has expanded, the engineering union became the largest and most heavily funded department after the library. Tephra was glad to relinquish the task of managing contracts to Raytheon, as it gave her time to devote to her own projects. These are mostly industrial water pumps and the like, inventions indispensable when it comes to optimizing the castle's function. However, she swears up and down projects are purely for her own interest! She still delivers Rosen's excellent coffee to everyone in the morning, but that's just the kind of dragon she is.

Recently Tephra acquired her own lab! If she took the time, the Spiral might suspect that this was done just to keep her out of the trouble cooking down in the deepest lab levels. If she knew of the Corrupted Uprising's super soldier experiments, she would report directly to Geneva.

Tephra is endlessly loyal to the Matriarch. Long before she came to the island, Geneva spent a summer visiting the Spiral's birth clan. Shortly after the Guardian left, the clan was struck down with Silence. When she became head of her own clan, Geneva returned, at great personal risk. The Matriarch refused to leave until the dragons woke from their slumber and she could personally bring the two Spirals home. For rescuing her and her sister, Geneva has Tephra's undying gratitude.
