King Iliac began, like most royalty, simply Prince Iliac, born to the Clan of Swirling Flurries. His mother, try as she might to be a diplomat, never excelled in government, and his father was often sickly and unable to assist in Iliac's tutoring. Ultimately, his mother busied herself with her own selfish business and his father was too ill to ensure Iliac's introverted and brusque traits wouldn't fester. Iliac's lack of parental guidance is what's largely to blame for his personality; he's not a social creature, in the slightest, doesn't much enjoy talking or affection, physical or otherwise, and thus spent most of his time alone, doing as he pleased. Now, the King isn't a bad dragon, not in the slightest- he's a very loyal soul, bound by his own mental laws and ethics or otherwise, and he's very by the book. But all this very sharply contrasts wife Porcelain.

His father's last bought of strength went to ensuring the clan a safe future. Iliac wasn't the oldest son, and thus didn't inherit the kingdom, so his duty was to ensure the growth of the kingdom. His father negotiated the alliance with Porcelain herself- the Akashaa was a sizeable clan with an appropriate amount of wealth, so Iliac's father overlooked the peculiarity of negotiating with his future daughter in law. Iliac and Porcelain wed, and Iliac moved to the Akashaa.

To say the move went flawlessly or even moderately is a severe overstatement- Iliac made his distaste for the heat of the Ruins clear from the beginning, sequestering himself into the lower levels of the palace, where it was much cooler, and away from the Queen's Tower atop the Outlook. His general lack of social skills made him at a total disadvantage with the tightknit royal family of Pearlcatchers, whom were all beloved by their clan for their instructiveness and involvement with the people. So Iliac spent most of the beginning of his time largely feeling alone and disliked.

Upon coming around to Porcelain- be it out of duty or any unspoken feelings he had, Iliac began to grow on the people. While he remained largely- and literally- silent, he made a point to join his wife in government matters, and would venture out with her to meet the people and join in their affairs.

Now a father, Iliac has largely grown more sociable to better bond with his Pearlcatcher-dominated family. He may understand the want to talk half as much as his prattling daughters or dislike the government books his sons boast about finishing, but he supports them, and will even gruffly admit he's proud of them, given enough time and prompting.
