In the Twisting Crescendo late one stormy night, the air was thick with dark magic. Thunder roared over head and the lightning cracked hitting one of the eggs in a four egg nest. The lightning had jolted the mother awake and she quickly looked in on her nest noticing a small hairline fracture in a recently laid egg. She nuzzled the egg carefully, worry written all over her face, the worry however did not last long as the sound of chirping could be heard from inside it. Letting out a deep sigh of relief the mother returned to her post beside the nest only this time she lifted her shimmering, seafoam wing up over the nest so that if it were struck again, at least this time the lightning would hit her and not her precious eggs. By morning the storm had dissipated and all seemed to be well in the Twisting Crescendo again. The mother sang to her eggs daily and would talk to them for hours on end, telling them all kinds of stories. When she would leave the nest to hunt for food her mate would take her place and watch over the eggs with pride. Believing with all of his heart that the hatchlings within the four eggs, surviving a ranging, magical storm like the one last night had to be blessed by the Windsinger himself. As the days turned into nights and back again, the parents were becoming impatient to meet with their new hatchlings but there was still no movement. Once again the mother became worried for her un-hatched offspring and called for the clan healer. The overall check-up was a brief one and the mother was told not to fear for the hatchlings inside were fine and would arrive in their own time. On a damp summer’s morning the mother arose to her feet and shook the heavy morning’s dewdrops from her wings. She stretched out her dark body uncurling her tail as she did so, as she stretched her head out low to the ground near the nest she heard the sound of eggshell cracking. Calling for her mate to come quickly the pair stood over their nest watching the eggs with caution. To their dismay only one egg was cracking open the others soundless and unmoving. Knowing in their hearts that the other three eggs contained nothing but empty air they removed them from the nest so as not to frighten the remaining offspring. The Shell of the fourth offspring finally split open at the dawn of a new day. As the curled up hatchling uncurled it’s tail, his small body, then followed it with his slender neck revealing his narrow head with a short curved horn on it‘s forehead . His mother stared at him in horror she couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing, her baby that should have been a Guardian or a Coatl like herself was in fact the most Shocking thing of all A PEARLCATCHER!! Seeing it’s mothers horrified face, the little hatchlings body began to shimmer and magical runes appeared. It unfurled it’s large cramped up wings, grabbed it’s beautiful glittering pearl and took to the sky never to be seen or heard from again within his birth clan of the Twisting Crescendo … |
