Biography
|
It was from this love of frivolities and general care and attention towards the details that Libitina developed her biting attitude and harsh judgemental qualities. In a flight which valued survival, but not life, a dragon such as Libitina was considered expendable at best, but dangerous at the worst. She spent her short life bouncing from clan to clan, trying to find a place where she could settle and be herself. With every new rejection came a new scar, until she found herself in the Tribe of the Festering Scar. It was here that she faced a terrifying Rite of Worth-- a challenge to survive true fear and encourage her to hone her natural skill as a healer. Beyond these facts, it is unknown what challenge Libitina would have faced. A few days before her sentence date, the leader of the Tribe went on a rampage. It would seem that an egg she had scavenged from the middle of nowhere had been stolen form her. She took it out on the newcomer. Libitina did not survive. What happened next was a blur for the Ridgeback-- it seemed to her that at almost exactly the same moment she felt her last breath leave her body, she was taking a lungful of the fresh, green air of the swamp. Whereas most dragons would have felt disgust as they felt the algae and limp duckweed slide gently off their scales, the first thing Libitina did was smile. She could feel new life coursing through her veins and over her body. This place was the greenest she had ever seen. And, at last, she felt joy. ________________________________________ |
She gathered all sorts of tiny things-- pebbles, feathers, leaves, seeds... Eventually her basket grew heavy, and she stopped to rest under the shade of an enormous tree. She poured her treasures out onto the soil and began to sort through them, carefully examining each one, wondering of their origins and properties. She stayed here, mesmerized, for quite a while, until she was found by the gentle Kundanika. The two dragons talked about what happened, and while Kundanika was certainly in for a shock regarding her son Jarl's recent activities, she did her best to be supportive and understanding of this confused young dragon. After a long talk and a few days' rest, Libitina set out to find her mate in resurrection. She slid a carefully-worded note into the mouth of the cave where Thanatos had taken refuge. She could hear his cries from deep within, his panic at finding himself the object of his greatest fears. The note was brief, and while Libitina declines to share most of its contents, it is known that it ended like this: "You have the chance to save lives, my friend. Do not throw that chance away." Today, Libitina uses her command of life energy (that of nature as well as that of plague) to heal and nurture every inhabitant of clan Golden Guardian, including, at last, herself. ________________________________________ |
