The sea. The waves. The others. It was all he knew now. He had been here for so very, very long.

It hadn't always been this way. He was sure of it. Once there had been more than the endless to and fro of the water. More than just existing on the swell of the tide as it swept him toward the shore.... and then back out again toward the heart of the ocean.

Sometimes he could almost remember.

When the waves surged toward the shore, he could almost remember.

Almost step out onto the sand, separate from the crashing waves. Separate from the water that holds him captive. Free to run and dance and leap.

And then he sees it.

There at the water's edge.

The monster. The Red Bull. Fire and fury and hate.

He is afraid.

And he turns away. Back to the sea with the others. Thoughts of freedom slipping away like the tide.

And so he waits. For what, he does not know. Only that it is something more than this.
