About the Art: I drew it in pencil, then inked it by hand.
Then I scanned it for digital clean-up and coloring.

Since I can remember, The Last Unicorn has been my favorite animated film and it's also one of my favorite books. It is the poignant tale of the Last Unicorn in the world going on a dangerous journey to find out where all the other unicorns had gone. Pearlcatchers remind me very much of unicorns and so I
I had thought this project was finished, but I keep finding little ways to improve it. And I plan to add more characters! It's such a fun endeavor that I don't ever want it to end, and I'm so grateful for everyone who comes along on the adventure! If you're just finding this project for the first time, please enjoy and leave a comment!
Follow each dragon to its profile and find more details about each in their bios!
UPDATES:
*UNICORN APPAREL??? Yep, The Last Unicorn got a new look! I'm working on a separate dragon now for Amalthea.
*I've been working on some adjustments to Mommy Fortuna, so stay tuned and check out my Wishlist!
*It's not over! At the urging of some fans of this project, I've decided that I'm going to add some characters as time allows. Some possibilities include Captain Cully (Molly's husband), Ruhk (the hunchback), and possibly the harpy Celaeno, Mabruk, and even the Tree (because I can't resist a tree dragon).
Stuff I'll do as able:
*Refinements
*Make this post and the bios a little prettier!
If you're a fan like me, please feel free to make suggestions for dragons and apparel! Also, if you have a TLU fandragon, please feel free to show it off here.
If you'd like to be pinged for updates, just let me know.

I deeply appreciate the generosity and support that has been shown to this project, whether donating funds, genes, breeding, or apparel! None of my other projects mean as much to me, so thank you!
Each of these players has contributed items, currency, dragons or nests to this project. Countless others have given me advice and encouragement, and it would take so much space to list them all.
If I've missed anyone, I'm sorry! Please remind me!

The centerpiece of this project based on the film the Last Unicorn. She lives in a forest enchanted by her presence, but realizes she hasn't seen any others like her in a very long time. So on the word of hyperactive Butterfly, she leaves her home to seek the Red Bull and find out what happened to the others.
I originally wanted this dragon to represent both her unicorn and later human form, the Lady Amalthea. But the release of unicorn apparel has inspired me to do separate dragons for them. Amalthea is a work in progress, but her unicorn form is boasting a new look! Now that she has her real horn, her PC horn is more like a nod to the fake one she had in Mommy Fortuna's Midnight Carnival.
She also has a mate to ensure that she's never the last. I usually breed them in Shadow. Check them out in this post.

Without Butterfly the Unicorn's quest wouldn't have had the direction it did. It was his seemingly nonsensical ditties that revealed to her the fate of all the other unicorns.
"I would break my body to pieces to call you once by your name." -Butterfly
I hadn't thought about updating Butterfly since I finally bred the original(especially since it took a lot of work), but after Peacock was released, I saw a dragon with Amethyst Peacock in the AH and though nothing else was the right color, I thought of Butterfly immediately. I began to search for the right dragon after scrying every blue, and even some purples for the wings. I was weeks-deep in project pairs and near-miss hatchlings when the perfect dragon came up in AH.
A special thanks to Oszs for donating Noxtide and to GiggleRaptor for the Fae scroll! If you'd like to see the original and related notes, please check this dragon's profile.

What would this project be without the deceptive tragic villain Mommy Fortuna, who by mere chance happens to capture the Unicorn and put her on display in her Midnight Carnival, complete with an illusory horn so humans can see her.
I hadn't really set out to do this character quite yet, but I found the perfect dragon while browsing the AH. Her apparel came together beautifully because of generous friends of the project, and she's even accompanied by a harpy.
I've started to remodel her! She got Slime because I couldn't resist how it made her look saggy and wrinkly. She also finally has hair!
But she's incomplete, and I'd love to give you the chance to help. First, I need to expand her clothing slots by 3, so if you'd like to donate gems for that, I'd appreciate it! I realize that benefits all my dragons, but you'll see why when I'm done. I'm also willing to accept 'junk' horde items to sell in AH.
I've gotten all her apparel, but I can't add it yet! I'm still accepting gem donations toward 2 apparel slots.

Next is Schmendrick the second rate magician who proved his mettle when he both saved the Last Unicorn's life and cursed her with the worst possible fate...regret...by changing her into a human, the Lady Amalthea.
Though Tundras aren't normally my dragon of choice, he had to be one because of that hawk nose and totally non-threatening nature.

My The Last Unicorn project would not be complete with out the feisty Molly Grue who spent her entire life hoping to see a unicorn. When she sees herself as spent and worthless, she finally meets one...the last of her kind.
Molly couldn't be anything but a Fae with the wings simulating that wild hair. Of course she is Earth for those warm brown eyes.

The Red Bull was the terrifying nemesis who drove every last unicorn into the sea, except for the one who would know humanity as Lady Amalthea. In the end, he tried to do the same to her, but was forced into the sea himself.
Here is version two! Once the new colors came out I got to thinking more creatively on this one. No matter what, I wanted the imposing bulk and horns of a Guardian. For the longest time I overlooked Crackle as a possibility for a more firey look. I debated between Vermilion and Ruby for the wings, and settled on Ruby because I liked how the Peregrine added a hint of smoke and char. Well, now here he is! (First version is on his profile.)

King Haggard is the tragic villain of the story who kept the Red Bull to herd the unicorns into the sea below his craggy castle where he could watch them wash in and out on the tide. You almost have to feel bad for him because all he wanted was to be happy, and the unicorns made him happy.
I loved putting his gear together because of the challenge of layering everything just right. The crimson cape is a unique challenge because it's a different color on the underside. So far, I haven't found anything perfect, but for now the Dusk Rogue Cape and Crimson Aviator Scarf make a good substitute!

I probably got more requests for this character than any other. Introducing Prince Lir, adopted son of King Haggard, who falls in love with Amalthea. In the end, he even sacrifices his life to protect her from the Red Bull.
Originally he was going to be a Skydancer like Haggard, but after some conversations here with other fans, I agreed that an Imperial was a much better choice.

I've always had a soft spot for the drunkard skeleton guarding the clock entrance to the dungeons of Haggard's castle. Even if he does give Amalthea's escape away, I have to pity a character so desperate he can get smashed on imaginary wine. "Yooo-nee-corn!"
This is The Drunk Skeleton V2 because how perfect is the Ghost gene for this guy?? With that, I had to decide what the rest of the dragon should look like, and so I took cues from his background to really make it great. I didn't want to just slap white-range Ghost onto an all black dragon! So I found colors and genes that mimic the mantel he's lying on as well as gloomy, cobwebbed feel of the dungeons.
His accessories also got a bit of remodeling. I still haven't perfected the crown, though the Rose Thorn Crowns would be perfect but for that odd rose. This time around, I used the Scout's Cape for the tattered remnants of his clothing. After watching the clip again, I realized the hanging item probably isn't a bag but a necklace, so I splurged on the Sapphire Talonclasp Pendant as the closest thing. Perhaps his best "accessory" is his familiar. Watching the clip made me realize that Time Devourer was perfect for the creepy old clock!
I'm so grateful to @Terrorzone for patiently hosting his parents month after month in a Plague nest. I scried him with a variety of eyes to get that empty socket red glow, and I'm so glad a fan suggested Dark Sclera!

The piratey Cat not only knows the Unicorn for what she really is, but also the way to the Red Bull's lair. But he only speaks of it to Molly in riddles. Why? Because "no cat anywhere ever gave anyone a straight answer." Arrrr.
A big thank you to Firron for finding just the right dragon, and to Centri for the accent to make him even better!

I could not "finish" this project without trying to capture the "character" that perhaps left the strongest impression on me as a child: the unicorns surging to escape the sea but unable to break free. My belly still flutters over the strange mixture of awe and sorrow I felt when I first saw them.
Because I didn't want to reveal the finale to those following this project, I enlisted my son @Abogad to help me design this dragon. We scried so many ideas until we narrowed it down, and I was leaning toward Iridescent as a gene. He showed surprisingly artful insight by pointing out how it lacked depth and that Poison with Crackle really captured the turbulence of the sea and unicorns' escape.
So I give you Unicorn Seas, the most special part of this project to me.
And that isn't all! She has a mate to carry on the legacy of this project. Each hatchling will be numbered and come with its own profile badge. They will also likely have Shadow eyes. For more details and the pinglist, and since this is the Share forum, please visit this post in my Drakery.

Please note that I don't make any claim to any of the reference images or characters. This is simply a labor of love because of something visionary Peter S. Beegle gave to the world when I was a child. :)
