Biography

Description
Son of the infamous cult leader Ix, Runner came very close to being sacrificed in the name of the Arcanist as a mere hatchling. He is the only survivor among his brood of four thanks to Ian's desire to have at least one child of his live.

Runner had nearly been kept in Plague lands by his father, where Ix would not search, but the young Skydancer was distrustful of him and ran from all dragons towards shelter- the woods of the Arcane lands. He was named during his journey through the Starwood Strand, mockingly given by Cream and Ahlrada when he kept his distance much more fervently than most of the other dragons the other two encountered.

Runner does not speak, though he is physically capable, having missed the critical period to learn verbal communication fully. He understands some speech but mostly ignores it, favoring the more reliable method of sensing others intentions.

He cannot fly more than a few seconds and has chronic pain from the injuries given to him by his mother as a hatchling. Runner tires very easily and has to carefully plan out his days to get the most out of them; luckily, a disoriented spirit takes care of most of the physical work for him in exchange for peaceful company with another dragon.

All his clothing is scavenged from dragons that fell prey to the spirit that is his companion,
or else made by the disorientated spirit in its more lucid moments.

Blessed with a hardy resistance to poisons, even by Plague standards, Runner cultivates a variety of dangerous and beautiful plantlife around him. It helps keep him sane to manage the growths, as he can simply lay down in front of the plant he is tending to and make use of his strong hands and beak to shape them how he desires.

Relationships
He fears his mother, Ix, as he should considering what she is capable of and what she has done. Runner only saw his father when he was hiding him away in the wastelands of the Plague and does not care for him.

He has encountered a few dragons on his first journey: a Fae pulsing with something that made him want to run faster, and an Imperial that smelled of blood and mold. The Imperial terrified him as well so he continued his run until he felt safe in his solitude.

After settling down for shelter, he happened upon a disorientated spirit- amazingly the being did not kill the little hatchling, instead taking care of him much in the way a Guardian would their charge, or perhaps like any good mother would their hatchling. The two are perfectly attuned to each other. To approach Runner with anything less than an experienced and large battle team on your side would be to court death.

Runner's life had begun with the sight of his mother, a skydancer wrapped in purple, peering down at him with a disgusted expression as he pushed out of the confines of his shell. He had been transfixed by the shimmering robes she wore with such a vibrant color and had reached for it only to be harshly slapped away.

It was enough to make his sight flicker, and the next thing he saw was the dusty ground outside the nest. His mother began putting his siblings into a sling around her waist, the gouges she had so carelessly left in him oozing blood onto the dirt as he waited for his sight to stop spinning.

He was clutched to the chest of a mysterious male Skydancer flying through the morning wind carried dust and the thick, rank odor of rot along with them. It made Runner's eyes water and he let out a choked squeak as he tried to squirm out of the elder's claws to no avail; even without his injuries the Skydancer's grip may as well have been ironclad.

Soon they touched down by a craggy outcropping of stone and the quivering little dragon was held in place to have his wounds wrapped in torn strips of linen. “Hush, it will be alright my little one; you will be safe soon, you need only wait for me to return. Do not leave this place.” Runner was placed in the shade of the rocks and left alone. The Skydancer was too quick to depart for Runner to even cry out for him.

Settling onto his stomach, Runner laid there and waited as long as he could bear. After what felt to him like forever, a butterfly landed on his nose. He ate it. Not long after that he got up on wobbly legs to hunt down more of the tasty treats.

He paid no mind to the orders of the other Skydancer. Tripping and limping frequently did nothing to persuade him from continuing to wander from where he had been placed. The air grew cooler and sweeter the farther he went, enticing him closer to the lands of the Arcane along with the colorful flowers he found along the way.
