H i s t o r y

The following are samples from the research notes of Pathogen.
All samples have been taken with his permission.

______ Day 1: Today begins our trial. Solstice and I will attempt to discover how much dead Imperial is needed to create an Emperor. Hopefully we will be able to keep these creatures contained if we know when they are likely to occur. The procedure is simple: take a living Imperial and replace parts of it with dead Imperials until it becomes an Emperor. We have acquired a subject and are ready to begin testing.

______ Day 2: Subject is tolerating changes well so far. We have replaced the lower half of his left foreleg with dead flesh. He does not seem happy, but that is a necessary sacrifice.

______ Day 15: Subject is still tolerating changes well. We will soon begin adding dead material in smaller increments in order to avoid inaccuracies. Both Solstice and I would prefer to only do this as many times as necessary.

______ Day 186: We have finally acquired new subjects so that we may do multiple tests. They are all in good health, and we will begin testing shortly.

______ Day 194: I am very near to tearing out my whiskers. Subjects two through five do not seem to tolerate changes nearly as well as subject one, despite being in better physical condition than he. This makes no sense! I must understand- for science, I must! I am the child of the rulers of Plague! Why will this project not bow before me?

______ Day 247:We have acquired still more subjects, since our tests with our current ones have shown such conflicting results. These ones vary in their physical condition so that we may see if that has an effect on our main test. Subject one is still tolerating changes. Subjects two through five are tolerating them, but not well. Subjects six through eight seem to be tolerating changes just fine.

______ Day 289: Subject one is still tolerating changes well. We have moved to even smaller increments of change in order to keep our numbers accurate. Subjects two through five are tolerating changes better now that we have moved to smaller increments for them as well. Subjects six and seven are dead, but have not become Emperors. Subject eight is tolerating changes well. It seems that Imperials in worse physical condition actually require more dead flesh to become an Emperor, not less as we had assumed.

______ Day 306: Subject one is still tolerating changes well. We have yet again changed increments. Subject eight is tolerating, but not particularly well. Subjects two, four, and five have been tolerating changes poorly, but effectively. Subject three seems to be doing remarkably well, since she attempted to escape this morning. She got nowhere of course, and we now have her under better supervision. It seems she has been lying to us in order to facilitate her escape. This discovery makes several things more clear.

______ Day 320: Subject one is still tolerating changes well. He seems to be our most tolerant. Subjects two, four, and five are tolerating better since we made their increments of change smaller again. Subject three is tolerating changes well, nearly as well as subject one. Subject eight is dead. This is a terrible disappointment, but we have gathered some valuable data from the corpse.

______ Day 376: Subjects one and three are tolerating changes well. Subjects two, four, and five are not. Very frustrating inconsistencies. Nothing else of note.

______ Day 435 I am going to see this project finished, may the Eleven help me. Subjects one and three are continuing to tolerate changes well. We have had to switch to still smaller amounts of dead flesh each day in order to keep subjects four and five alive. Subject two is dead.

______ Day 483: Yet another disappointment. Subject one is still tolerating changes, as is subject three, but subjects four and 5fiveare no longer reacting to their environment. They seem to have entered a comatose state. Nevertheless, we must succeed. We are going to change the world with this project if we can only see it through.

______ Day 486: We must succeed! Subject four has died, but we gathered a great deal of useful data from the process of her death. She nearly became an Emperor. I think we are getting close to our answers. We will keep testing until we finally have them. This information is going to change so much. So very, very much...

Pathogen's Possessions

Despair
Despair is a Deadland Disciple and Pathogen's loyal companion. Rarely are they ever seen apart.

Chimera Fangs
Pathogen kept a lot of qualities when he left Plague to join clan Astralblade in Arcane. His biggest tie is that he likes to hoard Chimera Fangs, saying they remind him of his time in Rotrock Rim.

Plaguey
Plaguey is the Rotting Plaguebringer Effigy of Pathogen. It was the only thing he took with him upon leaving Rotrock Rim.

Skeletal Chimes
Pathogen likes to adorn himself with the bones of those he has killed as a sign for his enemies to fear that theirs will someday too be part of the collection.
