Biography

After his long-time mate, Mysteria, perished in a terrible blazing forest fire, Emerald devoted himself to using his knowledge of ecology and biology to balance the turning of the seasons. Though fires are, unfortunately, necessary to forest management, Emerald conducts controlled burns so they'll never get out of control again. The fire is a reminder of his lost love, and he sees her in it every time, bringing him closer to coming to terms with his loss.

His magic is the ability to hear the trees when they sense seasonal changes coming, and adjust his own foliage to their turnings and musings. He enjoys old oak trees the most, though young pines that sprout after a good burn are also precious.

______ Despite being a mirror, Emerald was born under the Gladekeeper and holds true to his elemental upbringing. He strives to understand the world around him by this way of thinking and wishes to maintain the glory of nature in everything he does. No chore is done without such thinking, and, even though he diets on meat, only takes from the land what he needs.

______ Not much of a healer, the male does find a mysterious love for herbs and plant life. Not exactly trying to learn the medical side to everything, he does try to grasp at the pros and cons of these foliage. If anything, just learning about their life cycle and place in the world is pleasing enough. That being said, he has strangely found a liking for the more eccentric plants of the carnivorous kind. Namely, the fly-traps.

______ Some say that it was his love of learning that lead him to his wife. He doesn't deny it. It was during a lesson on some plant life that he met the beautiful Spiral, and, though she may have seen him differently at the time, it was love at first sight for him. Ever since, the male has been with the well learned Mysteria.

______ On 3/28/17, Emerald and Mysteria departed on their long-delayed honeymoon. It's about time they went on a vacation, and the Viridian Labyrinth was a perfect place for nesting their next batch of hatchlings. (Mysteria insists on a "traditional" western marriage.)

They lived with the Alder Wood Clan for a time, learning the ways of their factions. Though Emerald never quite fit in with the Sentinals, he did enjoy sparring with the War Beasts and dancing through the woods with the Druid Fae. He longed for an ounce of the magic they possessed, as it's energy brought him back to his nature roots. Growing up in a clan of fire, though, he'd never gotten to exercise any of his natural talents. He could never fight as well as the War Beasts or engage in magic quite like the Druid Fae, but he tried his hardest.

______ Green hands worked meticulously as Emerald folded leaves. A group of hatchlings sat around him, watching with expectant intensity to see what would come of his task. A smile was rightly plastered on the male's lips, eyes just as locked as the children gathered. Each move was followed by a number of tiny, and large, heads as they tried to understand the folds. It seemed eternity before, finally, a small figure sat on the Mirror's upturned palm.

A series of small inhales and tiny "Wow"s greeted his finished work, and the male was greatly pleased by the young's reactions. A life-sized, origami version of a stag beetle female rested in his hand. Albeit a bit off colored and slightly abstract in appearance, it resembled creature perfectly. To allow for further inspection, he placed before him on the ground in front of the hatchlings.

"All, right", he chirped with a grin, "What should I do next?" A loud clamor came from the group as paws raised in the air just begging to be picked. He had to hold up his own hands and motion for calm. "Whoa, whoa. One at a time. Okay, you, " He pointed to a smaller Skydancer female whose face lit up at being called out, "What should I make next?"

She took no time in thinking, the answer blurting from her lips. "Me." It prompted a chuckle from the Mirror, and a gentle shake of his head. "I doubt I can make you." At her sad frown, he thought quickly, "But I might be able to make a Skydancer?" All the hatchlings raised their voices in eager wanting along with the now excited nodding of the little female.

"Okay then. One Skydancer coming up." Another large and malleable leaf was in his hands and being worked into many folds. He only hoped he knew what he was doing. If anything, the hatchlings would be easy enough to please. At least, that was what he told himself.

When he was about half way done, Emerald noticed a shadow hovering over him. Slowly, without stopping, he turned around and looked up into the fiery eyes of a gaint female Guardian clad in armor. The gold of her banner and jewelery only intesified the bright burning of her eyes. She was intimidating to behold, save for the gentle smile worn on her lips.

He returned the simple gesture and explained himself. "Just making some figurines for the littles. I love doing Origami every now and then; helps calm the mind and keeps the hands busy. And the babies love it." Now his attention was brought back to the group and the small mass between his figurines. Though, he quickly gave it back to the female as her voice sounded from above.

"That is very sweet of you. It's nice to see someone taking an interest in the hatchlings." She moved around him and settled at the back of the group, lounging on her side. Three small Guardian hatchlings, though still the largest of the group, quickly scooted near her and settled around or on top of her form, eyes still planted on the moving hands of Emerald. "Yeah, I love hatchlings. So eager to learn and full of energy", he responded. "I'm Emerald, by the way."

"Ali. I take it then you are Mysteria's husband? I met her on my return home during the meeting with the War Mother and the Sentinels. She said you two are spending some time here and have a nest?" The questions were poised between affections grooming of the male hatchling between her large paws.

The Mirror nodded, "Yep. Three, beautiful eggs all cozy and warm." He paused as his brow furrowed while his hands worked out a kink in the folds. Once happy with the new crease, he smiled again and continued, "I really do like it here. You all are so nice and welcoming. It really helps. Mysteria can get a bit worked up with her teaching and tutoring and this is a pleasant break from every day life. If you haven't, I suggest you take a vacation if you can."

A chuckle was his only response as the female Guardian continued to dote on her children. A few moments later, and Emerald held out the second finished product. A rather sharp edged and slightly disproportional Skydancer sat in his hand. It honestly looked like a four legged, long necked crow, but the circle of faces gave awe and excited whispers. Especially the smaller Skydancer female.

Her face was a beaming grin and bright round eyes just staring at the tiny, folded figure in his hand. It only felt right to hold it out to her. "For you, my dear." It amazed him how much bigger her eyes and grin became as her tiny paws reached out to delicately pluck the leaf figure from his palm and hold it in her lap. "Thank you", was her breathed chirp of amazement.

"My pleasure", he returned her grin before looking at all the expectant gazes just asking to be next. He would have gladly given them all an Origami figure if not for the Fae who landed next to him. Green eyes met the blue and white scaled female with a questioning smile.

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but Aridatha has granted you access to come along. We are leaving right now", she said kindly, having dipped her head to the Mirror before returning the gesture to Ali. The male quickly jumped to her feet, "Oh my, okay. Uhm, I'll be back to finish up later, kids. Right now, I have some work to do." A group of sad and solemn faces meet him but he quickly dispelled them by passing out the rest of his gathered leaves. "Here, each of you try to make your own Origami and I will look over your creations when I get back."

That did the trick. Now, he turned and nodded to the Fae. "Lead the way, ma'am." And they both quickly exited the Hatchling Ward and a group of very focused and meticulously working hatchlings.

A little bit about EmeraldDragon13:

Hi everyone! :D

Here, have some Q&A to learn a little more about me!

Q: What do you like to do? What are some of your hobbies?

A: I like travelling, wordplay (puns! :D ), reading, dragons dragons dragons (I'm pretty obsessed), drawing, Amtgard (think medieval/fantasy LARP with foam swords and real armor), parmesan cheese (it's my favorite food. Yes I'm weird.), and so much more. Feel free to chat, I like meeting new, interesting people. Learning new things is always a must!

Q: Where you're from in the wide, wide world:

A: Alaska! (FR -1)

Q: Are you in school? What are you going for?

A: Currently an Anthropology major, probably going to switch to psychology soon though. I'm very whimsical.

Q: What are some other interesting things about you, or things we should know about you?

A: I'm pretty obsessed with dragons, so I've been looking at getting onto this site for about a year now. I just keep barely missing registration windows! (Last month I was literally 2 hours late for it.) But here I am! So I'd love to learn some forum RP, I've always been interested, but too shy or not knowing enough to just throw myself into it. I'm having fun with D&D 3.5, but there's not enough dragons for me.
So, hello! Thanks for reading this snapshot of me, and I hope to make friends on this site who are just as passionate about dragons as I am. :)

______ Mysteria can usually be found pouring over books or giving motivational speeches, preaching the value of harmony with oneself and the world around.

There isn't a person you wouldn't love if you could read their story.

_ Some tips for conversing with people you disagree with:
* Separate the person from their positions
* Focus on their positions and arguments, not on them
* Try to avoid fallacies such as ad hominem (personal attacks), dismissing a statement because of the source, strawmen arguments, putting words into people's mouths that they didn't say, etc.
* Try to avoid viewing others as "enemies" and see them instead as "new people in my life who I've yet to make friends with, who currently think some odd and unhelpful thoughts, and who with mature conversation, might someday come around to shedding those dysfunctional ways of thinking."
* Facebook allows you to hide the posts and comments of people who simply trigger you too much. (hover over the upper right hand corner of one of their comments and follow the instructions).
* Try to avoid being reactive and try to grow into a place of being a non-anxious presence that allows others to be where they are - They have lots of growing to do, same as you.
* Realize that you don't have to respond to every bone-headed comment that shows up. Trust that others will either step-up to do that, or, simply view such posts as the juvenile acting out and tantrums and death-throes of an antiquated and archaic way thinking that is on its way out.

~Advice from Kissing Fish, a Facebook page~

On 3/28/17, Emerald and Mysteria departed on their long-delayed honeymoon. It's about time they went on a vacation, and the Viridian Labyrinth was a perfect place for nesting their next batch of hatchlings. (Mysteria insists on a "traditional" western marriage.)

They lived with the Alder Wood Clan for a time, learning the ways of their factions. Though Mysteria never quite fit in with the War Beasts or Druid Fae, she did enjoy talking politics with the Sentinals. Though they never quite accepted her as one of their own, as Skydancers were only permitted that honor, she did make an effort to provide them with knowledge of The Academy and various studies she'd undertaken throughout the years.

Small, serpent like body wove around the many stacks and piles of books, their size differing greatly. The Spiral female peeked under the cover of one large, Guardian sized volume, scanned over a few lines and let the heavy leather close. She was on a mission, one that the few previous meetings between the Sentinels and Warbeasts had stirred up. It was a simple mission, just a little quest for knowledge, but such quests could become life long. Hopefully, what she was looking for would be found in this vast and somewhat untidy library.

Another few books and a pile of scrolls found the female sitting on the edge of a large desk. A huge Guardian male sat on the other side, quill in paw, writing away on a sheet. She waited patiently for the right time to interrupt. A small clearing of her throat, "Excuse me, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for."

Pale eyes looked up at her from under the glasses on his nose, the quill ceased in moving across the paper. "And what is it that you are looking for", he asked in gruff tones but not unkind. Guardians were known for more deeper and heavier vocals than other breeds so it was no problem nor startling to hear it.

Mysteria placed a small paw on her chin, looking back at the.. well, mess, around her. "Well, uhm, that's the thing, I'm not sure what I am looking for." She turned back to the Librarian. "You see, I would like to see what records the Sentinels keep, how is it different from the Warbeasts, what makes the clan unique. Without imposing in information not privy to outsiders, of course." She added with a smile and a wave of her hand to show respect.

The words and gesture prompted a deep, gravelly chuckle from the gargantuan male. He laid his quill down and resettled his spectacles to a more comfortable position. "I see. Well, we can start over he-"

The two double doors burst open to reveal a rather flustered, and somewhat fluffed, Myrna. The Skydancer glanced around the room, raised a brow in disdain, then sauntered over to the desk. "Sam", she dipped her head just enough to show respect.

The male sighed at her approach but returned the gesture kindly, "Myrna. May I ask what brings you to my library?" The Council Head, glanced around at the room, dramatically searching, "Oh, I am just looking. You know how it is, being a part of the council and all. Always on the search for knowledge."

The male sighed yet again, pale eyes turning to squint slightly at the smaller Spiral. "As I was saying, we can try over here. The documents are usually kept along the back wall behind my desk for easier access." With that, he turned, stood to all fours, and took a few paces forward. Mysteria followed after him and alighted on bench made for a dragon of his stature. She watched his large paw move along the spines as he read the titles. Not finding anything satisfying, the beast moved to a column of cubbies separating two book shelves. There he again scanned with a paw over the small, brass tags at the top of each cubby, each one labeling what type of contents each scroll held. Or, generally consisting of.

Sam pulled one scroll from the middle and held it up for the Spiral. It was far too large for her to lug about but it wasn't exactly an offering. "Here we go. We should be able to find something in here t-"

"What are you doing!? Put that back!" Both looked back to see a female Nocturne rushing around the piles of books to snatch a carving from the hands of the Skydancer. Such actions caused the orange hued Council Head to once more fluster about. "Oh, why you- Honestly, the nerve of-"

"The nerve? Right! You're one to talk, barging in here and just making a mess of things." The Nocturne gently placed the art back on the shelf as the Skydancer vented, "I'm making a mess? Have you seen this place!? Just look at all the-.." And it went on for a few more seconds as both started shouting over the other. That was until Sam growled low then bellowed, "Enough! Both of you, out!" Neither female said a word and exited the library with hostile glances at the other and an extensive amount of grace. In the hall, however, one could hear their voices pick back up, but at least the door muffled most of it.

The Guardian sat back at his desk and unfurled the scroll, using another small carving as a paper weight on one end while he scanned over the rest. "I apologize for that. Both are good at heart but tend to just butt heads for no reason. I know my Myrrh, she has her mother's temper." He chuckled before tapping on the parchment, "Now, I believe this is a good start. As you can see, the Sentinels-.."

Mysteria leaned over the paper, listening and reading along with the beast. She liked these creatures. Yes, they had their quirks and hiccups, but what clan didn't?
