In the beginning of the Fourth Age, the Eleven went Their separate ways and began to spread Their influence over Sornieth once more. The dragons, Their children after Their own images, were fruitful and multiplied, triumphing over the land in the name and honor of their Creators before returning to Their sides to directly serve Them.

The dragons Exalted to these most honorable of positions grew in magical might with time in the Elevens' holy radiances. The oldest, and most powerful, became almost as gods themselves, and the most loyal of these were hand selected by their wise Patrons to return to Sornieth as to enact their divine wills as needed.

Trickmurk and her mate, Circus, used to go by different names; names that were shed upon their Exaltation, and which they no longer remember. Years passed by the Shadowbinder's side, the number of which they long ago lost count, until She sent them back to Sornieth.

Then, one day, the Shadowbinder summoned them for an important task.

A dragon had attempted to Exalt herself, not out of a sense of duty or devotion, but out of shame. This had angered the Shadowbinder to the point that She rejected the dragon, banishing her back to Sornieth and removing Her blessing from the offender, unless and until she was able to pass three tests to prove she had learned her lesson.

The Shadowbinder assigned the pair to watch over her and monitor her progress, and to protect her and her companions from any troubles that should arise outside of the tests... an assignment they took with glee.

Circus is devoted to the Shadowbinder first, and his mate second. These devotions are such that the two have worked together since before they Exalted, and they synchronize so well that they can finish each other's sentences and communicate with each other with nothing more than glances and small gestures. There are, however, some differences between the two in spite of this; Circus, unlike Trickmurk, can generally be relied on to be more truthful, though this isn't a guaranteed thing. He provides both the brawn and the "backstage magic" of the team - his complete familiarity with Trickmurk's magical signature allows him to easily know what is illusion and what is real, which allows him to provide oomph as needed or use the cover to deal the greatest damage possible.
