NADIA ★
Nadia is very much a private dragon. No one knows much about her, and although she pays rent to the clan (with money or goods), lives in their territory, and eats their prey, in no other way is she a member. She is often forgotten about, even with her darkly-gleaming wings and blue Water eyes, because other than that her appearance is quite plain, and she speaks rarely, quietly, and politely. She doesn't mind being forgotten, and in fact seems to prefer it that way.

No one really knows what she does, either- only that strange dragons go from time to time to and from her secluded den. Usually, these strangers will at the most only exchange polite pleasantries with the rest of the clan. Nadia herself could be traveling to and from the clan often or not at all, for most simply don't notice when she passes by.

When Nadia is noticed and thought about, there's often curiosity as to what she does for money or goods. Perhaps she's a crafter? A scholar? An enchanter? A scientist? A priestess? An oracle? An escort? No one has asked, and she has not talked about it. When she is (rarely) brought up, much speculation still abounds about her- but she is content to keep her business her own, and others are content to leave things that way.

STORY ★

OUTDATED! DUE FOR AN UPDATE! NO LONGER TRUE!

The truth about Nadia is that she deals in the subtle sphere of the mind- specifically, memories. She was born in the realm of the Tidelord, but instead of visions of the future, she found that for some reason she craved pieces of the past, a past which she had not lived. Stories alone, histories alone, could not satisfy her hunger. She needed more. Perhaps it was a strange magic carried from the depths, perhaps her egg was cursed, or perhaps she in truth has different parents who planted her egg in a different clutch. But whatever caused it, from that need sprung the discovery that she could steal the pieces of the past she craved from others. Her antennae are sensitive enough that when she brushes against a dragon's hide, she can actually feel their thoughts darting lightning-quick through their head, the slower currents of the subconscious, and- most precious of all to her- the slumbering troves of memories.

The first time Nadia felt a mind, she ached and burned for the memories she could feel. It was like a physical need- she had to have one! Before she realized what she was doing, fangs sprang out in her mouth, and she leapt on the dragon's back and sank them in the dragon's neck. As you may have guessed, Nadia was a vampire- but instead of drinking blood, she stole memories. Instinctively, she first stole the dragon's fresh memory of her jumping on them, then sucked greedily sucked away their life. Their childhood, the leaving of their home clan, the joining of hers, all relationships they'd made, the gladness, the sadness, and the anger- all stolen away. She sucked their mind dry of memories in an instant, and then jumped to the ground after a wound-healing lick.

That dragon remembered nothing at all, after Nadia was done with them; they were as fresh as a just-hatched hatchling, mind as blank and clean as new-fallen snow, looking about them with amazement and wonder. Her clan never figured out what happened to them, and of course, no one suspected the once-angry and desperate but now content hatchling of any wrongdoing. The only witness to what she had done now had their memories stored safely away in her mind, where they glowed like a fire, lighting her up and warming her from within. Not only did they satisfy her need, they were also fascinating, and very informative. She now had the wisdom and experience of an older dragon to call upon when she needed it, and seemed to mature very quickly to her clanmates. But though she was wiser, she was still young, and she became interested in life above the waves; she left the Tidelord's Sea and traveled Sornieth, learning much, stealing countless memories, and eventually ending up in the Gladekeeper's Labyrinth, where she made a very important discovery.

Nadia was touring the clans situated in the verdant jungle, offering service as a travelling storyteller and bard. She had learned how to play the flute by stealing memories from a musically-inclined young Spiral, and could tell stolen stories she'd taken from the minds of others. (She would now only ever take a few memories at a time that would not be badly missed, not all of them.) But while she was walking in the woods of the clan's territory, she was bitten by a certain kind of snake, and her muscles locked, keeping her standing frozen in place; she also quickly fell into a kind of deep trance. Surprisingly enough, she found she could delve into her store of memories and manipulate them! She'd started to have problems distinguishing between her own memories and stolen ones because of the sheer number she'd taken. While in this trance, though, she could 'box' the memories of others away in such a way that she could refer to them as needed but they would not mix with her own. This was a subtlety that she could have never imagined!

When she woke up in the infirmary of the clan, she immediately resolved to find that snake again, and learn more about the properties of its venom, for it hadn't harmed her at all, but only froze her and put her into a half-sleep. She frequently took walks in that part of the woods, and eventually found it before it found her. Patiently, she attempted to show it she meant no harm, coming back day after day with food and to soothingly play her flute for it, and eventually it warmed up and became friendly. She brought it back with her and dubbed it Laertes- he is now her familiar. She learned how to milk venom from him with his cooperation, and experimented by dipping her claws in the venom and 'accidentally' scratching a dragon when there was no one else around. The dragon froze in place fell in a trance as she had, and she found with amazement that when she sank her fangs into them, she could do things she'd never even imagined with their memories, like copy them, change them, and even add more in.

Nadia soon realized that not only was this a very good and potentially useful ability to have, it could be marketed! She could give dragons memories of things they'd never done, take away painful memories, and modify the memories of those who knew things they shouldn't. With some tweaking and testing, she's been able to set up quite a business out of a little Nature clan she's settled in- not only does she have frequent access to whatever memories she desires, she's making a pretty penny. Word has gotten around about what she does- it's a covert business due to its questionable morality, but rumors abound about a mysterious dragon in the Labyrinth who can transform the fabric of your or others' minds, for a price. You have to know the right dragons to get into contact with or find her.

Nadia's abilities have evolved as she uses them in tandem with the strange venom of Laertes. She is now able to enter a trance-state on her own, without the help of venom, in order to organize her memories and the countless other memories she has stored in her mind. She now seems to have endless storage capacity for memories in her mind because of the way she organizes them. She has always had the ability to bite a dragon, take some memories, and heal the wound with her saliva, but it's become a much more fine-tuned process. The way she takes memories is now much less like a hatchet hacking a chunk away and more like the careful cut of a surgeon's scalpel. She can use this careful control to delicately modify or add to a dragon's memories, when they're in a trace-like state- her work was rough at first, but now only the most perceptive dragons notice anything at all's amiss.

In summation, this Skydancer's a wily, intelligent one who looks out only for her own needs and interests. Laws, rules, and moral codes have no sway over her; she follows them if convenient, but sees no need to if they get in the way. She has not a small amount of money, the life experience of hundreds of others carefully filed away in her brain, and dark secrets aplenty that could ruin lives. With a careful scratch and a bite, she could wipe away the foundation of who you are, and mold you into someone only interested in serving her needs. Do not underestimate her, and absolutely do not make an enemy out of her! Those who do are often never heard from again...
