RHAEN
\ˈrān\ After a traumatic event early in her life, Rhaen has a severe negative association concerning the Beastclans. She refuses to acknowledge them most of the time, and if she does bother to pay them any attention, she has nothing but disgust and disdain to give. Among dragonkind, she is quiet and often seems downcast. Rhaen has learned to use this as a shield against emotional pain and doesn't usually let anyone get too close. Rosen and her equals at the Painted Lady are the only exceptions to this. Description Details
Relationships Rosen;
Rhaen's would-be lover. She grew very attached to him at a young age, and her infatuation grew into an ardent, unrequited love. Though she understands he will never be her mate, Rosen remains her only real friend and confidante.
Nandi;
Her employer. Nandi saw the potential Rhaen possessed, and helped her become focused and composed. Rhaen gained self-assurance and poise under Nandi's guidance.
Just after her nest hatched, Rhaen and her two identical siblings left their birth clan with their sire, only to be separated shortly thereafter when a pack from the Beastclans ambushed them in the night. Rhaen escaped in the darkness, but could find no trace of her family though she searched relentlessly for days. Her life began with terror and loneliness, and when she found herself at the entrance of Chamae's lair, with the imposing Autumn standing guard, she had no hope in her heart. She was taken in nonetheless, and although she remains melancholy, she takes some small measure of enjoyment watching Rosen mix his magical remedies. Perhaps one day she might find her lost family. Perhaps one day she will find hope. She harbors a strong resentment toward members of the Beastclans, and will not venture into The Horse & Raven or The Weary Man- both Beastclan friendly establishments- as a result.

After the clan left the Starwood Strand, it became apparent to Rhaen that she needed a way to support herself. She didn't really have many prospects, having no skills of note, and although she had studied Rosen closely, she was not proficient enough at his trade to apprentice with him. She worked several jobs over the course of months, including work at a bakery, clerical work in the Upper Ward, a teller position at the Bank of Vellinym, and a tavern maid. She left each job dissatisfied. Then she discovered The Painted Lady and knew she had found a place where she could belong. Though they had been through very different experiences, the dragons of The Painted Lady were all a bit damaged in some way. Rhaen could relate and felt at ease in their company. After seeing the Imperial around several nights in a row, Nandi offered her a job as well as room and board, and Rhaen immediately accepted. She still visits Rosen, but she has resigned herself to the fact that he will never be hers. Her outlook on life has improved considerably, though, and Rosen occasionally remarks that she looks much more at peace than she ever has before. This never fails to make Rhaen smile- she knows he's right. |
