The Roman god of sleep; known as "Hypnos" in the Greek Pantheon.

He dwells in Erebos, the land of eternal darkness beyond the gates of the rising sun, and rises into the sky each night in the train of Nyx.

According to rumours, Somnus lives in a big cave, which the river Lethe ("Forgetfulness") comes from, and where night and day meet. His bed is made of ebony, and at the entrance of the cave grow a number of poppies and other hypnotic plants. No light or sound would ever enter his grotto, so that he may not be awakened by the creaking of hinges.
