“Do you have to do that?” Shuga asked, but her question did nothing to stop Radek’s intent rummaging. “What are you looking for? I’m sure I know where it is better than you.” Radek finally paused, extracting himself from the crate he’d only just been leaning into. “It’s…” He paused to make a gesture with his paws, in a sort of cube-shape the size of his head. “It’s hard to explain.” He crawled back into the crate. Shuga laughed and walked beside the crate. “Well, what color is it? Radek pulled himself back out of the crate, holding two odd-looking trinkets, one in each hand. Both were coiled with exotic copper wires, plated with metallic red-brown. Radek leaned on the edge of the crate, holding both of the items for Shuga’s inspection. “I’ll give you three guesses.” Everything in the crate was the same color, in fact. Shuga smiled as Radek burrowed back into the crate’s disarray. “If you’d let me sell these things every now and again, you might find what you’re looking for easier.” “But if we sold it, we wouldn’t have it anymore,” Radek answered, his voice a bit muffled. “That’s kind of the point,” Shuga laughed. She leaned over the edge of the crate, next to Radek. “I’m sure there’s piles and piles of gold just waiting to be made in here.” “No, no,” he mumbled, coming back up to face her once more. “If you find something valuable, you keep it. Forever and ever.” Shuga smiled, touching her nose to his. “Oh, is that so?” |

Shuga hatched to two merchants who wanted little more for their daughter than a stable herd. They found Stamukhi, every bit the gentleman they hoped for with clever schemes and a sizeable nest egg. Stamukhi wasn’t interested in a mate at the time, and neither was Shuga. The two of them, thanks more to their mutual annoyance at Shuga’s parents, were fast friends even if not perfectly suited. Not long after Shuga’s parents departed, satisfied that they’d found Shuga a stable situation, Stamukhi and Shuga left, too, to find their fortune in the wide world. Though Shuga has found deeper feelings for other Tundras than her mate, she still loves Stam. She enjoys working with him, their occupations often inseparable. Stamukhi makes sure the clan maintains its generous coffers, and Shuga maintains their goods and wares. Still, they both admit their pledge was more for advantage than love. And, in fact, with the exception of one Tundra named Radek, maintaining advantage at the expense of all else very much who Shuga is. Shuga is a practical Tundra, perhaps owing to her Ice heritage. She makes regular trips back to her home in Ice territory, though very few know why. She’s not likely to give up something if it maintains utility, and she’s certainly not against selling when the prices are high. Though she may seem heartless sometimes, Shuga is just as warm and generous as anydragon, happy to offer help when she can. And she usually can. If she can’t personally help, she can usually afford the services of another dragon who can. Though Shuga seems a very private dragon, she is always surrounded by friends. Perhaps owing to her pragmatic practicality, honesty, and unbiased advice, Shuga is an on-again, off-again friend for many dragons, and she always has many friends writing her when she leaves to find fortune elsewhere. She sometimes worries that she cannot split her time equally with those she loves, and is most frightened of showing favoritism. She wonders if her dearest friends are too practical to be bothered by these things… or perhaps she cares for them more than they do her. |
