피 땀 눈물
"Hurry and choke me so I can't hurt any more."

The way she drew him in, it was unthinkable, almost surreal. When he was with her, it was as if nothing else in the world mattered. All he needed was her love, her touch, her presence, and the woes of the world would smile upon him once more. He gave her all that he had and more, unable to hold anything back. Deep within him, he knew it was dangerous being with her, but his hands refused to let go, his legs refused to run.

He told himself it was love.

Like peaches and cream, she was sweeter than sweet, and he lapped up the velvety smooth words that departed from her lips. The black feathered wings that sprouted from between her shoulder blades never once struck him as odd, only reassuring him that the love he had found belonged to the realms of angels. The very same pair of wings that sheltered him from the worst of storms could easily turn and strike him across the cheek, inflicting searing gashes that left streaks of warm, red blood down his face. There were so many signs, so many clues that pointed to the devil's wings that were hidden beneath her own. The whispers that taunted him in the dead of night, he cast them away and continued drinking. The sweetness of the Holy Grail that quenched his every need couldn't possibly be poisoned.

He told himself it was a lie.

Soon, it started hurting, and he had no idea why. Each kiss drained the energy out of him, left him lifeless, left him gasping for more. Every flitting touch of her fingertips gave him shivers, made him moan, made him break out in a cold sweat. It was exhausting, so exhausting, but somehow he didn't want to pull away. Nothing had ever given him a sense of satisfaction and belonging the way she did, and it wasn't as if he could hurt any more. The pain that stemmed from his heart was nothing that couldn't be soothed by the lulling melody of her voice, and so he hung on even tighter, burying his doubts beneath a mound of freshly dug ignorance.

He told himself it was nothing.

Opalescent teardrops that shone with the light of enlightenment gathered at the corners of his eyes and blazed a trail down his cheeks. The black fabric that she had wrapped around his eyes had robbed him of his vision, leaving him blind and at her mercy. He was reminded once again of his folly as she tugged at the single black rope that hung around his neck, inducing a sharp pain in his throat as it dug into the tender flesh. He cried out, more out of desperation than out of pain, pleading her to make the rope tighter so he would be put out of his misery. Pleading her to take the last twitch of movement out of his limbs. Pleading her for the last dance that she had promised all those seasons ago. Pleading her for a last kiss, one he knew would hurt him the most. His emotions conflicted what had once been a clear sense of logic in his brain. He knew she had imprisoned him, that she was the cause of his suffering, but that wasn't enough to subdue the small cry of his heart that said he still wanted her. It was too late to take back the blood, sweat and tears that had been sacrificed, but it wasn't too late for remorse.

He told himself it was a mistake.
