the spirits, they follow you
you are a beacon to them
drawing them like butterflies to flowers

They say Sornieth is the only world for light-years in sight, that it appears alone in a vast universe of suns and stars, but Sulimard would beg to differ. A focused, quiet soul, Sulimard knows that Sornieth exists alongside worlds beyond mortal comprehension. He spends a vast amount of his time traveling between planes, something few dragons are capable of on their own.

Truthfully, though, this was never a life he would have chosen.

Born to a peaceful coven of witches, Sulimard thought he could spent his life honing a particular craft that would never draw excess attention. He was quiet from the start, and inclined to slip through the background without a word. An observer at heart, it was never his intent to become an active participant in a world that is more dangerous than kind.

It was the nearby Ghostlight Ruins that ruined any chance of a solitary, simple life for him. Their mere presence stirred up a magic in him that he did not realize he had, and one evening, sitting at the fireside, he noticed the shimmering spirits that crept up behind his siblings. He leaped up in a frenzy to chase them away, and to his alarm, no one immediately believed what he had seen. It continued to happen, though, and with increasing frequency. The ghosts began to follow him around incessantly, and eventually, as he allowed them to cause chaos without lifting a claw in order to prove to his coven that he was not suffering from hallucinations, he took it upon himself to lead the spirits away.

Now, he wanders the Ruins in a lonely state, dogged by unearthly beings from all planes. His intercessions keep the more benevolent creatures from mischief, and his growing strength, which includes powers of banishment, prevents the stronger, crueler wraiths from wreaking havoc on the surrounding area.

On yet another day of wandering, he came upon a strange sight.

It was a statue that he had not seen before.

It simply stood there, the strange wooden, striped statue, out of place in the Ruins.

And yet, it gave him an uncanny feeling, standing out of the gloomy Ruins.

He stared at it, wondering who had left it there.

It looked normal... Until he went closer.

He caught it's scent, smelling like burnt and oily wood.

Then it did something unexpected.

With a loud scraping sound, it turned to face him.

Caught off guard by it's sudden movement, he took a few steps back.

This time, it moved forward. Towards him.

He took another step back.

It scraped forward again.

He stood still for a moment, his heart thumping loudly and felt a chill go down his spine.

Again it went forward. But now at a steady rate, slightly slower than normal walking speed.

He turned around, tail tucked between his legs, and ran as fast as he can.

It was his first encounter with a Stranger.

He soon learned that these things were something he could not banish. So he did the next best thing.

He avoided them. And yet they were everywhere. Well, almost everywhere.

He noticed that some of them never appeared in certain areas, so he started to avoid those that were frequently infested with them.

There were those that started chasing him as soon as they saw him, and those that didn't mind his presence to those that avoided him altogether.

There were those that affected the environment around them, those that affected him, or even both.

Following after a particularly nasty encounter with one (a bright orange and yellow one that dribbled bile from its mouth, it was very strong and made him very nauseous, he nearly was shoved into its mouth, he barely escaped alive and it tried to grab him, tearing off some of his fur), he collapsed, too tired to hold his head up, nearing unconsciousness.

It was in this state he was discovered by Zilous, a longneck medium.
