A loner, even, some might say, because he hasn’t once stepped into a conversation of his own free will. Actually, half of the dragons in the clan haven’t heard him speak at all. And not once has he said his name. He’s strange, that dragon. That’s what some whisper behind his back. He knows they say this, but he doesn’t let the hurt show on his face. He just continues to exist, and to follow directions, because he doesn’t really have a preferred job, or not one that he’s ever evidenced a liking for: he lets other dragons tell him what to do. He is close to just one dragon. He trusts her, and he loves her. She might not know it, because even around her he is quiet, but he would give his life for her. She is royalty, and it might harm her status to be with him, but when she found out about his love, she was more than willing to return it. He is so grateful for her, even if she doesn’t always know that, either. But even she doesn’t know his secrets. She doesn’t know that he was born to serve, born to be an emotionless, obedient creature. No, not even that, a thing, not a creature. Well… maybe he wasn’t born to serve. But before he came to the Rainsky Alliance, he was taken from his parents into a clan that demanded these things of him. Eriador, an Imperial from the Alliance, was passing by and saw how he was treated, and proceeded to barter for his freedom. He was then invited back to the Alliance, and he gratefully accepted. He has a great admiration for Eriador, and the blue Imperial has held true to the promised he made when he rescued a broken dragon from a life of slavery - he has not shared the truth behind it all. And he remains nameless. Maybe he had a name once, but it was taken from him. Another unfair price he had to pay. But life isn’t fair to most, he’s learned that. For now, he is content with who he is, nameless or no. The things that matter most to him, those things have nothing to do with names. |
