Hatchery Nurse
A wrangler of the clan’s Hatchlings “The kids really are not that bad…just like rowdy pets really” If there ever was a dragon popular with the hatchlings, it was Raeios. The girls fawned over his golden good looks, admiring the way he carried himself with confidence and poise. The males though he was just the coolest, and the way the ladies seemed to adore him…well they all wanted to grow up and be just like him. While this was endering, and Rae was flattered by the general admiration of the clan…he felt a bit lost. Like his almost twin sister Sunisea, he was having a hard time deciding what to do with his life. Druidry didn’t appeal to him like his brother Crispin, and being a warrior didn’t suit him either. He didn’t want to leave the clan at all, and so following his sister back home was out of the question. His options seemed painfully limited, yet he was determined to become anything but a burden on his clan. Going to the clan elders for this sort of soul-searching seemed more than a bit embarrassing, so he resigned himself to pacing back and forth, deep in thought. During one of these frustrating sessions a hoard of young dragons came charging out of the nesting grounds, their caretaker Newji scrambling after them, looking more than a little overwhelmed. Rae stoped his pacing, quickly moving in front of the stampede. It took no more than a sweep of his massive tail and a few well placed grabs with his short arms to bring the young dragons under control. At first the mass of them continued to squirm, struggling to get away. Rae craned his neck to fix them with a warning stare, and the lot of them settled down. “Now kids, why are you giving your nurse such a hard time?” He asked, voice lightly stern. He knew what it was like to be a rambunctious hatchling. The question was met with muttered sorrys and quiet apologies. By then, Newji had caught up and was panting. “Thank you for catching them. Don’t know what I would have done if they made it to the woods…” The older bogsneak trailed off, looking at the imperial with a gleam in her eye. He was quite a sight with the hatchlings piled all over him, calmly waiting to be released. “Say, I could use some help in the hatchery. Why don’t we take these kids back and have a talk…”

After that Raeios became one of the caretakers of the young, and he donned a playful mask to amuse the children. Truly he was a good child wrangler, and Newji found each of the younglings all the better behaved with their idol watching over their every move. |
