Zinfandel
Sommelier
Refined • Posh • Snooty

It's not that Zinfandel loved wine -- it's that wine offered Zinfandel a chance to feel superior to others. Growing up in a small village, but getting to meet all the merchants that passed through to do business with his father, Zinfandel wanted to be as fancy and elegant as they did. Wine-tasting was something associated with decadence, but which no one in the village knew much about. So that was what Zinfandel hit upon; now, having left the village of his youth, he is the perfect addition to any five-star restaurant.

But he did not end up in a five-star restaurant. Instead, the small Spiral found its way into the Tangle Wood and got quickly lost. He wandered in the Woods for hours, feeling watched all the while. Suddenly, a purplish and perpetually grinning Spiral appeared in front of him out of nowhere. Too shocked and scared to speak, Zinfandel let the stranger laugh at him then introduce himself as Cheshire. Zinfandel, gathering his wits, was about to shout at him for scaring him when Cheshire grabbed him and flew at breakneck speed between the trees, enthusiastically babbling about him being "worthy" and "perfect for his nephew's bar" and other incomprehensible things. Soon, Zinfandel felt a shift in the air, and they arrived at the center of some sort of clearing where lots of dragons were gathered. Zinfandel barely had the time to read the name of the establishment he was thrown in (the "Colony of Bats" bar) before he found himself laying on a wooden floor at the feet of a Spiral and a Pearlcatcher, who were apparently arranging chairs and tables in the bar. Their lack of reaction was either due to their incredible stoicism, or to them beeing used to Cheshire's antics, or both. The later was still speaking to Zinfandel, introducing the Spiral as his nephew, Chianti, and the Pearlcatcher as Chianti's associate and mate, Luise. He then turned to Chianti and told him he had found him a new employee, a gifted sommelier ("how did he know that??" thought Zinfandel) who he had a good feeling about, before saying goodbye and vanishing into thin air.

Zinfandel was still staring, baffled, at the spot where Cheshire had just been half a second ago, when Chianti spoke to him in his low voice. "Excuse my Uncle, his egg was infected by the Shade so he's not quite there... But he still is powerful and I trust his judgement. From what I've understood, you're a Sommelier, correct? Perfect. My mate and I run this establishment, the Colony of Bats bar. I'm the bartender but I also make wine, and Luise is a talented brewer. If you're willing, you could live with us here and work for us. You wouldn't be bored, as there are lots of dragons, both from our Clan and outsiders, who come here, thanks to one of our denmates' Space Magic allowing us to let other dragons enter the bar. So, what do you say? Will you join the Chiroptera Cult?" At this, the taller Spiral extended his dark claws towards the smaller, Luise watching them with a slight grin on her face. Zinfandel acted like he was thinking about it, but really it was a golden opportunity that he knew he couldn't let slip. With a bright grin he shook Chianti's paw, and the Colony of Bats gained a new employee.
