Luise, from the beginning, has been made to learn that life grants its blessings unequally; one can take them lying down, or one can fight. Luise is one who fights.
The youngest of her family, she is also the least beautiful and the only one born without a gift: both her parents have some god-given talent, as do all three of her elder brothers. Life, it seemed, had passed her over. She could have become resentful; she could have surrendered to insecurities; she could have gone vainly seeking for the blessing she never received. Luise, by sheer strength of will, did none of these.
Stubborn: bull-headed: ornery: none of these words would suffice to describe Luise. Hers is the kind of contrary personality that does a thing simply because somebody told her not to. Her parents taught kindness and compassion: so she will care for none but herself. She was raised in respect and propriety: so she will be coarse, even profane if she pleases. She is expected to long for a gift from a god: so she spits in the face of all blessings. Luise is a dragon to grapple with life, not only seizing but dominating.
Though she would not admit it, Luise has inherited from her mother a love for gardens. She keeps a small planting that she is very fond of - rows of grapes, fruits, grains. Her true passion, however, is the brewery, turning all her crop into drinks and heady liquors. Being the independent entrepreneur that she is, she does very well... and she enjoys the dragons who come to the tap: her sort of people, just as unlucky as she, and just as unshakably tenacious.

Luise left her home clan as soon as she could. Of her three brothers, two had already left, choosing to stay in Lightweaver's domain, or to go to Icewarden's; but Luise, in order to insult her useless God and further distance herself from her family, chose Shadowbinder's territory.
One day, during her wandering, she felt a sort of shift in the air, like she had just went through some sort of invisible door and was not in the Bramble anymore. Then she heard noises, the usual hustle of a big Clan, and realised she had likely just trespassed in someone's territory, and that that someone must have known very powerful mages.
Luise was at a loss on what to do. She didn't know how to leave this place, and didn't really want to find out how dangerous the dragons here could be. She was not scared (she was way too prideful to be really scared) but she didn't want to have to fight.
Fortunately, a Fae radiating an aura of quiet authority soon came to her and greeted her politely. She explained that Luise had arrived in the Chiroptera Cult, her Clan, and that it must have been Fate that brought her here (as xxxHolic explained later "There are no coincidences in this world"), so she was adviced to stay, though she was free to choose.
Curious about this Clan and bored of walking empty woods, Luise accepted. She talked to Nightshade, her new Leader, about having a garden of her own and brewing liquor, and the Fae smiled at her, telling her about some of her new denmates that could help her, the couple of gardener Imperials, Hazan and Shyama, and more importantly, Chianti, a Spiral, grandson of another member of the Cult, that loved wine and was opening a bar.
And Chianti was just the dragon she needed. Just as independent and headstrong as her, a good businessdragon, charming in a quiet, sultry way, with a dark edge apparently inherited from his grandparents. He could keep up with her attitude and even balance it with his calm. They first became associates in their bar (the "Colony of Bats"), then even mates.
