Rhododendron was born on the edge of the Sea Of A Thousand Currents, his egg found at the base of a waterfall by a kindly snapper named Apatite. She nurtured the egg and a hatchling was born, who she adopted without hesitation. Just a few days later, Apatite found another coatl hatchling, a three-legged baby struggling after being abandoned by her clan. Was it a coincidence, or was it fate? Were these actually two siblings from the same ill-fated clutch, related by blood but separated by flight?

Either way, Rhododendron and Melusine grew up treating each other as siblings - along with the various other dragons Apatite inevitably adopted - but it was mysteries like that that prompted him to take after his Water flight mother and become a seer. Few of her other children were from the Water flight, and Apatite took him in as not only her son but her protégé. Unlike Apatite, however, Rhododendron attempts to force his visions, practicing diligently to hone his skills and becoming frustrated when he can't see the future. Sometimes even his Light-born sister seems to have visions when he can't see anything.

Still, they have a good relationship... but that will only last if he can keep his jealousy in check.
