Born on the border of the Sunbeam Ruins and Sea Of A Thousand Currents with pale colors and three legs, Melusine was abandoned shortly after hatching by her clan. She's never found out why - she has no idea who her birth clan even is - but she strongly suspects it was due to her sickly appearance at birth. Luckily, she was found shortly after hatching by a motherly Water snapper named Apatite, who raised her as one of her many children. Thanks to Apatite's love, Melusine has never really felt like the loss of her former clan or her leg was a problem (although she still wears bright silks and jewelry to overcompensate for her pale colors out of fear of abandonment). Though she has absolutely no ability to control water magically, she's an adept swimmer thanks to the magical addition of gills to her body, and she's learned to compensate for having three legs in that way. She spends much of her time underwater.

Melusine is strangely intuitive - most of her suggestions end up coming true - and Apatite jokes that she was touched by the Tidelord as well as the Lightweaver. Most of the time, she just shrugs it off. Magic works in mysterious ways, and she's not one to question fate.
