Some dragons try to make an effort to be good, but others don't bother trying at all. Sludge is unfortunately the latter. Sludge is a morally corrupt, sleazy, and roguish dragon who is out for himself at all times, pure and simple. He is a liar and a manipulator, but he makes no apologies or efforts to hide his nature. Sludge views himself as simply being who the world wants him to be. Admittedly, Sludge is not all bad- he's an honest individual and doesn't cause havoc for no reason. If he is caught stealing, he will admit it- but they'll have to take their money back from him. Sludge is selfish- pure and simple, though he hints it wasn't always that way.

Bogsneaks were always fairly antisocial- that was well-known. But Sludge was ostracized and pushed away at every turn as a child. They all saw him as an abomination- a breed that was made, not meant to exist. Sludge battled his sadness every day, but eventually got sick and tired of the needling and bullying. If the world wanted him to be a sly, untrustworthy slimeball, than so be it- he would embrace it. As he grew older, Sludge became more and more of a misanthrope and began to do shadier and shadier activities to advance himself and make treasure- whether it was stealing, lying, cheating, or even killing, Sludge had no cares in the world. The world wanted him to go away when he was young- he'd feel no guilt for harming those who harmed him.

Sludge notably developed an interesting skill- he was always a rather slimy and messy individual, drooling slime all over the place as a kid (which was how he got his name from his parents- a subject of merciless bullying as a child). However, as he grew older and developed his powers, Sludge found an interesting advantage of his affliction- he could set his drool on fire. Sludge's prime ability is to shoot burning goo out of his mouth. In addition, he can choose not to set his saliva on fire, but it remains highly flammable. Eventually, Sludge became a skilled arsonist. He could spread his spit all over a nest or den, and with one breath, he could light the whole thing ablaze. Sludge's skills started to earn him a moderate fortune, although business was rough due to his untrustworthy nature. But Sludge had no goal. He'd squander his wealth on booze and meaningless trinkets. He had no direction, no goals, no aspirations.

However, one day a dragon came with an offer- a Skydancer named Veil. A fat load of cash for a small favor. Sludge was vaguely interested- she trusted him enough for a job. But what was it? Veil revealed her predicament to Sludge- she had a number of allies trapped within a prison hidden in an underground lair of Ice Dragons. Sludge had no idea where this was leading. Veil asked if Sludge was willing to get caught by them and spreading his saliva all over the icy walls. Sludge was doubtful- his fire was strong, but not even he could melt layers and layers of hard ice. But Veil revealed her second plan- to give Sludge a set of keys to all of the locks of the cells. Sludge shrugged- it made no difference to him as long as he would be let out afterwards, which Veil promised. The only question now was how Veil would get the keys. But that wasn't Sludge's problem. He was in.

Sludge sometimes hints at having many regrets, saying that he doesn't like who he is, but doesn't think he can be anything else. He only reveals his sadder side when he's drinking.

Sludge has a neutral relationship with Veil. He's mostly bored by her, but has made a few passes at her, to which Veil responds with scorn. He indicates that he finds her attractive, but when Veil enters rage mode, he can't be bothered. He gets along far better with Argent and Orion, who he shares more in common with- a pragmatic sense of self preservation and a love for money. Argent can find him irritating at times, but they tend to socialize and bond over their former homes in the Ashfall Waste. His relationship with Orion is far more positive- while he has rejected Orion's interest in him, the two have made excellent friends and often go bar hopping with one another- usually, Sludge takes advantage of Orion's fighting and swipes money from distracted or injured dragons. He notably always pays for damage that Orion causes (though the source of his funds is not always known). The two of them are more along for the ride than interested in Veil's cause.

"He's the perfect bait...the plan is foolproof- he's enough of a scumbag to be locked away in that prison. And once he's in, the plan is perfect!" -Veil
