DIANA
THE DRILL INSTRUCTOR
_______
27254306.png
▬▬ ABOUT ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

One of The League of Valor's drill instructors, responsible for training new recruits. Despite her reserved nature, she is widely considered to be one of the best instructors in the clan. Perhaps this shouldn't come as much of a surprise, though, considering Diana herself was trained specifically to be able to efficiently and effectively train others.

Diana has had her current position for years now, and she's well accustomed to what it demands of her. Every so often, she is assigned a batch of new recruits to train. She trains them until they are ready to graduate and join the ranks of the clan's army, and then is assigned another batch of recruits. Rinse and repeat.

While Diana has never had any real grievances about her job, she has noticed some... unusual things about it, to say the least.

Like, why does she remember training countless dragons, day after day, but she doesn't see the clan's army growing appropriately to match those memories? Why does she remember training dragons who don't seem to know her at all? Why can she perceive other people's combat experience just at a glance, laid out in front of her like numbers? And why do these numbers sometimes not match how strong someone actually is?

After asking around, it seems like she's the only person who feels this way, even among her coworkers. No one else has conflicting memories and can see odd numbers when they look at others. No one else remembers her doing things she's absolutely sure that she did.

Diana can't help but feel as if she's remembering things that she's not supposed to, seeing things that are meant to be hidden from her eyes. Maybe someone made a mistake and she ended up with false memories. Maybe she was cursed, allowing her to see others' combat experience but not necessarily in accurate ways. Or maybe she's simply seeing and knowing things for what they truly are. Who knows?

▬▬ ORIGIN ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

Thanks to her naturally clumsy nature, Diana was not taken seriously by many others in her clan during her childhood. She was largely ignored by her peers, and found herself coddled by the adults around her even when she became older. Diana thought that she would be treated differently when she became an adult but nothing ended up changing. Frustrated, the nocturne left her birth clan in search of a place that would respect her.

Diana eventually found herself in a boot camp, training to become a warrior in hopes of suppressing her clumsiness. Although her instructors were strict, they never discouraged her from improving. When she stumbled, they lent a hand to pull her up onto her feet. When she felt as if she hit a roadblock in her training, they were there to help her find a way around it. Even when she made a fool of herself, they never berated her or remarked that she was incapable. They treated her with respect.

Inspired by the patience they had for her and the faith they put in her ability to improve, Diana decided to become a drill instructor herself. She wanted to extend that same respect to those who grew up like her; pushed aside, treated as if they were hopelessly incompetent. She wanted to show them how to believe in themselves. Even if one of her future trainees quit after realizing they weren't suited for a warrior's life, she would never berate them for it. This way of living is not meant for everyone, after all, and it doesn't mean that someone is incompetent if that life is not something they desire or have the capability to live. A lesson that Diana took all too long to learn after years of being made fun of for not being able to master skills that she was expected to.

After she trained to become a drill instructor, Diana left the boot camp after receiving a job offer in a clan located off the east coast of the Sunbeam Ruins.

___ » a collection of bewildering square-shaped stones. All of them are labeled, with names such as "rally," "berserker," and "eliminate." Apparently, if given to a worthy dragon, they can provide new abilities for combat and enhance strength.

» a few bottles, all containing a light blue liquid. Drinking a bottle supposedly allows one to be "restatted," whatever that means.

skadi

"She's incredibly strong, perhaps abnormally so, but... I don't think she's supposed to be that way? Um, I don't know how to put this in words exactly. It's like... the numbers don't add up. I look at her and see someone with absolutely zero combat experience, but she nevertheless devastates her opponents in battle. I don't understand how it works."

___
pilia
coworker
39504459p.png

"A while back Pilia asked me a few things about Skadi, mostly regarding if she's had any drastic shift in personality over the years. I don't know Skadi very well, but I'm pretty sure she's always been the aloof sort? I don't think I remember her changing very much. I said this to Pilia, and she looked pretty confused. I wonder if something happened between the two."

___
adrienne

33188145p.png

"The Fallen One is similar to Skadi in that when I perceive her, I see a dragon with no combat experience. And yet, I've witnessed firsthand that that perception is not true. I've seen The Fallen One fighting someone with god-like power and winning easily. Even if that was their first battle, you'd think my perception would adjust to list that as combat experience, right? But no, nothing has happened..."

"Ferdinand is one of my closest friends, and I feel like I can talk about almost anything with him. Except, well, my suspicions I guess. He's been in the clan longer than I have, but I don't think he can perceive the things I do."

___
red
71772565p.png

"Okay, so here's the weird thing: I very distinctly remember training Red. But they don't seem to remember it at all? When I asked them about it, they said that all of their combat abilities were programmed and built into them, and they have never required any training. I'm... I'm not sure what to think of this? None of the others recall me training Red either, so maybe it's just me..."

___
tyrcia
48310187p.png

"I remember training Tyrcia briefly. But similar to Red, Tyrcia says that she doesn't remember that happening. I... I don't know who to believe, at this point. Who is right? My memories, or what others say?"

___
lorelei
65981529p.png

"Not long ago, I perceived Lorelei as having no combat experience. But then... well, a week passed, and I didn't see her. Not unusual, considering that our paths rarely cross in the first place. After that, I saw her and... she was suddenly a seasoned warrior? How does someone gain that sort of experience in only a week? What happened?"

▬▬ NOTES ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬

» her nickname is "Ana" but she only allows her closest friends to use it

» Diana usually doesn't see battle herself, but she is more than capable of fighting if she finds herself needing to do so.

» in case it's not very clear (and I don't blame you if you didn't get it), Diana's bio is a reference to how she's a mire flyer and trains fodder. She recalls training vast numbers of people but does not see the number of warriors in the clan growing appropriately to match those memories (bc most of the people she trains are exalted, but exalting is technically not something that exists in the clan because Adrienne would never willingly send people to serve The Lightweaver.)

» she also remembers training people that don't remember training with her, because those people were already strong lore-wise but were not necessarily strong in terms of what level they were. Diana was the one who leveled them to 25 but they do not remember that, believing that they were always that strong.

» basically she remembers the coli stuff that I do (leveling dragons because I need them for a coli team) but that stuff doesn't exist in lore, so she has a lot of conflicting memories

» she also knows people that she would be unlikely to know (for various lore reasons, like Red who largely stays away from others) because she trained them in the past

» Diana being able to "perceive" the combat experience of dragons is basically her seeing what level they are, and being confused when their level and in lore strength don't reflect each other

» Diana's comment about Lorelei references how I sent Lorelei to a leveling service for a bit (I forgot how long she was there so I just said a week) and came back as a level 25 dragon
