As a hatchling, Merlot found himself in a quandary. He found no joy in pondering the theories of the Starfall Isles as the other followers of the Arcanist did, as he had little patience for the attention that it required. As such, he accepted that he needed to set out on his own and find another clan to call home. He hadn't meant to wander into the Sea of a Thousand Currents, but a wrong turn through the Scarred Wasteland meant that he was suddenly wing-deep in the waters of the Tidelord. His cries of surprise were answered by a wandering fae, who introduced himself as Winterheart, the patriarch of a nearby clan. Winterheart escorted Merlot to his home and introduced him to Bernadette. Merlot bumbled his way through the introduction and nearly upended some of Bernadette's prized treasures in the process. Bernadette merely laughed and found him an empty cave to call home. Merlot wasn't sure that he wanted to serve the Tidelord, but he did know that, at least for the time being, he'd found an understanding home. He set out to meet all of his new family and learn what the clan's founders had in mind for them. Through the introductions, he found that the others thought he was funny, and started to find new ways to entertain them. Still, his quench for something more stayed unresolved. One day he looked to inform Bernadette and Winterheart that he was ready to move on when he found himself instead confronted by the most beautiful dragon he'd ever seen. Merlot swore that he'd never leave Riesling's side and that he'd be bonded to no one but her. Thus far, that proclamation has proven easy to keep. |
