the marshes appear almost overnight, freshwater collecting along the banks of the viridian channel in deep pools scented with roses and incense. its silent, rain-soaked residents surface from the depths not long after.

gershwin notices first, then immediately tells franz, who tells caieta after his lunch break. caieta instructs him to add marshlands, and, in parentheses, haunted? to her weekly agenda. gershwin is not comforted.
