Thoughts:

▸Rawlins: Serious, takes things too literally, quiet, he’s basically family.

▸Fell: Capable, young, strong willed, friendly, a sweet kid who deserves better guard placement.

▸Kinning: Energetic, loud, excitable, and very very young. He’s probably not ready for such an import posting.

▸The King: Different than what was expected, tired, stressed out, just beyond exhausted. He looks like burnout personified.

▸Hydrangea: Distant from his fellow guards, kind and supportive never-the-less. Probably just stressed out.

Jurek seemed to have had a somewhat close relationship with the Founding King and Panorous back in the day, despite him not being originally from the Shadow Domain.

Though he lives in the Shadowbinder’s lands, Jurek still seems to be quite devoted to the Arcanist. This ruffles some feathers but he remains respectful enough for others to mostly leave him alone.

Being a guard for quite some time would, usually, mean that Jurek would be close with the rest of the community, like Fell is, but his devotion to the Arcanist seems to isolate him from his neighbors in a very notable way. Separated from the majority, as he is, Jurek never expected to be much more than a Senior Guard who always gets the worst postings… and then the bandit raid happened and things changed. The new Guard Captain didn’t care who he worshipped, she saw his skill and moved him to be more central… which further led to the Council’s High Priest to notice him. Jurek still isn’t sure how he went from being the outcast to being a Royal Guard but he’s eager to prove his worth.

Thoughts:

▸Layek: Guard captain, she’s smart, cunning, and she’s a lot less judgemental than the previous Guard captain was. Spells Opprotunity.

▸Keyal: 2nd in command of the guard, she’s rude, snarky, and thinks herself more compitent than she is.

▸Ramsey: Fun, good sense of humor and someone who is good to work with. Like family.

▸Leovan: Bashful, shy, a sweet kid who should, maybe, find a different career path.

Thoughts:

▸High Priest: Mysterious, calm, aloof, seems to be able to see the best in others.

▸Odette: A new member of the guard and it shows, gets herself into more trouble than she can get others out of.

▸Zulily: Fearsome, competent, and quiet. She’s kind of intimidating, menacing, its hard to be in a room with her.

▸Kenryn: Good kid, takes after their mother in competence and silence, seems very diligent.

Biography

When Jurek thinks of home he thinks of the Tourmaline Archives, of the arcane sands of the high cliffs that look out over the freezing waters across the horizons. His mother, Kameo, was a fisher and his father was a scholar of the Archives. Along with him was his older brother, Kameoaur, and the two of them would often follow their father through the never-ending archive as he worked. That was how things were at the start but as the war between the Arcanist and the Icewarden ramped up. There was less fish, so less to go around, and the Scholars in the Archives had to be prepared to leave at any moment, should the worst occur, so for the first time in their lives Kameo offered to let them go out on the fisher’s voyage with her. Kameoaur stayed behind with their father, Jurek went with their mother on a trip that would change his life.

He hadn’t known that living as a fisher would be so dangerous, the massive nets threatened to take disrespectful shipmates with them when dropped into the icy depths, and when storms rolled in the waters would toy with the idea of taking the ship. Jurek learned a lot while out on the waters, the ship staying out in the ocean for months… to find that the archive had been attacked when gone. That it was just him and his mother now. Jurek was… lost, he didn’t know where to go from here, but he knew he couldn’t stay. So, Jurek left home for the first time and traveled to the unknowns of the other elements. It was dangerous here, too, forcing him to learn how to fight in order to defend himself. It was happenstance than saw him meeting another Arcane dragon out here, in the wastes of plague. Arcana was her name, a bright and furious Orc queen. Her and her followers were quick to seize him and when they found that he had no belongings worth taking… they got revenge for wasting their time.

Life changed for him, again, after this. His skin never felt like it had stopped burning, and his once-vibrant shade of green would remain an ill color. Through the brambles he fled, even as the thorns bit at his burns, to hide from the plague people. In Shadow he found himself, far away from his home... but, Shadow was surrounded by desert, light’s golden sands, Lightning’s duller greying dunes, and open water on both of the other sides. He was stuck in shadow, afraid of the desert. Jurek was despondent, with no allies and no place to go, but eventually the arcane mirror happened upon a young shadow mirror. He was by himself, sitting in a tree, when Jurek saw him. Not quite an adult yet, was the shadow but even still Jurek asked for help. The other obliged, showing Jurek the way to a small town that was being built. What would become Blue Kingdom in time, but for now Jurek was welcomed by his fellow Gith.

Personality

Warm and even-tempered, Jurek has been through quite a bit in his life and he seems to know how to deal with most situations calmly. His experience in life has led him to being very patient and attentive, perceptive of the issues and desires of the people around him. Jurek doesn’t have any blood-family left but a lot of people say he would make a good dad.

Bad experiences linger, some people are more willing to get up and face what has harmed them than others but Jurek allows the bad things to paralize him. Though he longs to go home, back to the Arcane element, he is not willing to try to pass the desert or open waters in order to get there, he’s too afraid to do it… not to mention he probably wouldn’t be able to stay in Arcane for very long when ghosts still linger there. Jurek is perfectly capable of standing up for others, at protecting himself, but there are certain things to pull him to a standstill without warning. He has always been this way and he seems unwilling to change in this matter.

Personality

As Kind, and friendly, as Jurek is he tends to be on the quieter side. This wasn’t always the case, Panorous mentions that he used to be very similar to Valenin in energy when he got there, but his time of being side-eyed and talked down to by those who don’t agree with his devotion to the Arcanist has made him more reserved in speaking up. He’ll still step up if someone is in trouble, or say something if he feels someone wants help, but he doesn’t participate much in frivolous conversation. He’s just trying to keep the peace.

Considerate, he is very aware of his surroundings and makes a point of helping others whenever possible. Jurek can tell when other people are having a tough time, and he’s pretty good at knowing when to offer support and when to distract others from their woes. Kindness is something he gives freely, and he makes a point of not pushing boundaries or saying things that could upset the people around him. Jurek notices a lot of things about other people, most of it he’ll pretend not to know though.
