They had done it.

The three of them. Lana could feel the strain pulling at the feathers of her wings. Could feel the magic draining, dripping like blood from a fresh wound, each frantic, racing pulse of her heart pushing the boiling energy away from her core.

Lior and Regus had both fallen, their magic sparking in the air around her. Angry. Resolved. Unfocused. Dragging everything down with it. A whirlwind of destruction feeding on the very magic it devoured.

Distantly she was aware of the hatred rolling over her in waves. Distantly she was aware of the claws reaching out of nowhere to rend and tear into her flesh. Distantly she was aware of the screaming. The papering, shredding of reality around her. The dusting smoke filling the air with a deceptively light scent.

Then the world stalled.

And, like a released breath, everything collapsed. And all that was left was the burning stench of ozone and the lingering, prevailing sense of loss.



Even that faded away.
