Permafrost Impaler
Winds whip through the trees, leaves long gone, every brittle twig snapped to pieces in the snow below.

Someone large and clumsy bounds through the forest, hissing and coughing. Vocal noise but no recognizable words. Following it, softer but distinct, the sharp crunching of something piercing the hardened snow.

The dragon jumps forward and kicks with its hind claws, flinging snow back toward the trailing impaler, who barks. When the dragon crashes down in the snow, the impaler pounces. It rolls and rolls again, but the impaler prances around to keep its position on top.

They could be predator and prey--a dragon desperate to escape death at the boneskewer hands of the impaler steadily stalking it--but the mirror's vocals sound joyous, and the impaler's gait has a playful jaunt.

The beast mimes the act of piercing the dragon's great chest; the dragon kicks and chirps incoherently, twisting in the snow to dethrone its friend. When it finally falls and the dragon rises on all fours, victorious!, the impaler climbs right up onto its back and barks a laugh. They continue to play, throwing snow and breaking branches.

Terrible, brilliant creatures, to have found life in this lifeless place.
