Twilight is not his real name. The writing on his tomb had worn off long ago.
Some of the bandages are old, some new. Silks and clean cotton strips wrap his arms and legs in equal fashion, his final outfit mixed with fresh linens upon his return to the “living”. Jewels adorn his neck and ankles, numerous rings on skeletal fingers, and expensive pins in his mane. He was prepared for an easy passing into the afterlife, funeral rites as per his clans’ custom. Gilt vases and casks hold his organs, still beating heart and all. For all the rites they performed for the Seer-Prince, it did very little to prevent his return as an emperor. As in life, he was obsessed with incantations and conjuring, spending countless hours pouring over his personalized cauldron, his most expensive and prized possession. He learned the words and mimicked the script, memorizing his time worn scrolls. All that learning prevented very little in the end. Whether assassination or illness(for the texts were too old and moth bitten to read) the Seer-Prince died. Now, as an emperor, his mind encased in a jeweled box alongside his intestines, he is nothing more than a warbling songbird. The last and most long dead head of them all. |
