The Zephyr Steppes may seem simple to traverse to the laydragon, but it is actually somewhat treacherous. Though the steppes themselves are flat, it is not without its hostile creatures and hungry bandits. The wind currents above are just as dangerous, even to advanced flyers unused to the twisting breezes of Wind Territory. This all adds up to great difficulty in sending messages between the numerous Wind Clans, which is where signal flyers like Saint step in. Saint flies signal kites, usually to warn travelers of dangerous weather or animals, or of a place to stop and rest their wings from a long journey. He is well-versed in the signal kites used all over Wind Territory, and his excellent vision makes it simple for him to decipher the kites flown by other clans. Once, during the rainy season, Saint's kites warned of a flash flood heading toward clans to the south. Fortunately, a group of hunting Harpies noticed Saint's kites as well, and were able to move their roost-mates to high ground before they were all swept away. Signal flying is a well-known and practiced art in Wind Territory, though Saint wonders if it is elsewhere as well. He hopes to someday travel far, and see the signal kites of other Flights... or if they even have them. Until then, his kites may be seen flapping in the wind over his homeclan, telling travelers to stop by for a warm meal for the long flight ahead. |
