Luciel the Crestfallen Healer

Kind | Caring | Abused | Healing
____________

.
"I can make others smile, yet I myself never truly can."

Luciel was well liked by those he encountered. He had all the qualities one would want as a friend or an ally. He was understanding and empathized well with others. He loved to make others happy. Seeing sadness and sorrow was something he hates. Caring and compassionate, he was willing to risk his life in order to help those in need.

Being a healer, Luciel was always working to help heal the injured. His healing magic was extremely potent and powerful. Wielding such magic took a lot of energy. Born with a weak body, he cannot handle using large amount of magic continuously. His body and consciousness would collapse if it reaches its limit. However, that does not scare Luciel from helping if needed. He was willing to sacrifice his pain if the situation calls for it.

"I am not a nice creature. Do not fool yourself thinking I am. Do not be fooled by my kindness. Friends? Ha! We were never friends. I have no friends. You are better off not getting close to me. You'll be safer that way."

Many seek out his friendship and companionship; however, Luciel always pushed them away. Yes, he was a good friend to them. But once they tried to know more about him, they were immediately shunned off by him. If they were persistent then he would resort to threats in order to make them back off. Insults would be thrown and trusts would be shattered. Yes, they would leave, and he would be alone once again.

"Happiness is not meant for me. You are better much off with others."

____________

.
The life Luciel lived was a sad and lonely one, yet he believed that he deserves it. He felt that he does not deserve to be happy. No one would ever understand him. If they learned about his past, they would hate him. Rejection and hatred was something his emotions could handle. As a result, he rather reject them first before he was rejected by them. Sad yet it made him feel secure and safe.

"Healing and being kind is my job. It is not my personality. I am much much darker than you think.”

Luciel wasn't born to a clan. No, he was born to rouges. His father was executed for high treason and mass murder. His mother was exiled to the harshest and coldest place of the Southern Icefield. Food was extremely scarce. The cold was extreme even for an Ice dragon. Mother and child was forced to make do and survive each day.

The Skydancer loved his mother dearly even if he knew she was a rogue, but his mother didn't reciprocate his love. No, in fact, she was harsh and abusive towards him. At first, both lived a simple and peaceful enough life. They made do with what they could find. Eventually, however, things became harder for them. Food was running extremely low. Insects were gone, and the vegetation was slowly withering away. Since there was little food to be found, his mother would starve Luciel. She would take all the little food they could gather for herself. He didn't mind it at all as long as his mother was appeased by it.

Soon, life became a living hell for Luciel. His mother was always irritated and angry. She would lash out her frustrations at him. Her sanity was slowly leaving her. The young dragon would endure the brunt of her anger each day. Her insults demoralized him. Sometimes he even questioned why he was living. What purpose did he have in this world?

"Why do I have to have another mouth to feed?"
"..."
"Life would be so much better if I didn't have an idiot tagging along."
"..."
"Why can't you just die?"
"But, mother, I don't want to die."
"DIE!"

A day came when his mother showed symptoms of a terminal illness. She grew weaker and slower each day. None of them realized it until it was too late. She was already dying. Luciel, being a gifted healer, knew how to cure her of it. But the fear of being hit everyday again once she recovered crept into his mind. That day he made a life changing decision. He decided to abandon his dying mother and escape the Southern Icefield.

Luciel carried that regret all his life. Yes, she was abusive, but she was still his mother. He still loved her. He failed to help her because of his fear. He deemed himself a heartless creature. Others may deem him shallow, but to him, his mother was the only one he had.

From that moment on, he promised to give help as long as he is able to give it. Happiness was something he could never enjoy. No, a killer doesn't deserve to be happy.

His power could one day drain his life energy and kill him. But perhaps he was looking forward to that day. Maybe it would be a sweet release from this life of pain and regret.

.
By this point, Luciel was left in ruins. All he felt he could do at this point was run, abandon the land he called home, and find a place where he felt he deserved to rot away. His depression and trauma left him to believe he was worth nothing; no matter where he went, he was as cold as the flight of his eyes, unable to give himself any sense of pleasure or hope, as he feared betrayal more than he feared loss. Flat and worthless as he felt, he pushed his weak body to travel through Sornieth, and ended up in the Barren Wasteland. There, with the habit of scavenging to survive, he assumed his end would come as soon as he had hoped.

The Wasteland, as expected, was highly inhospitable for a dragon of his kind. All around him was disease and rot -- to which he could be susceptible with his feathery plumage in place of thickened scales. Carrion littered the land, leaving him with almost nothing to eat; insects and flora were a rarity, quickly snatched up by more able-bodied hunters and gatherers. Starvation, however, was a slow, agonizing death. Days blurred into one another, and he felt death could not come soon enough to avenge his mother. With the salvation of demise to end his pain, he thought of a land he'd more comfortably like to pass away in: the Viridian Labyrinth. Filled with life and joy, the land was more alive than he had ever been; he hoped his magic would seep into the land and aid those who deserved it more.

The nearer he got to the Labyrinth, the more he felt his body decay. Through pure primal instinct he snacked on the plants and bugs he could find, even if he felt he shouldn't. He only wanted enough to take him to his grace. He traveled until his body gave out; first a walk, then a limp, then a crawl, until he fell. He fell, his sight blurring from the bright, radiant sunlight that sustained the plants around him.

"Here is the place I shall lay for the last time."

The light faded, but not from his eyes. Above him stood a behemoth -- a large dragon, no doubt -- whose stature shaded him from the sun. Clad in shining silver armor and cloth as green as her eyes, she spread her wings, glittering like a galaxy in a midnight's sky. With the last puff of air he could expel from his lungs, he spoke to her.

"Are you an angel to take me to the heavens?"
"No, child," she declared in a protective, motherly tone. "I am Sarihlle. I am here to save you."

All Luciel remembered was a vague sensation of being picked up, before he blacked out.

While unconscious, Sarihlle had trekked back to her clan in the Behemoth, knowing she had clan mates who could save this poor dragon's life. From the moment she saw him laying in the grassy expanse, she felt the pull to give him a second chance at life. Something shined about him -- not his iridescent plumage, but the light within him that he couldn't see. She immediately took him to Yohualli, the clan's resident holistic doctor. Blessed with the gift of alternative healing magic, she sensed his power within him.

"He is a healer. He heals others, but could not heal himself. Now, it's his turn to be healed."

Time had passed, and Luciel made a miraculous recovery. From having to be fed every morning and every night, he now returned the favor by working alongside his savior, Yohualli, as her apprentice. He had become much stronger, his frame filled out, and his magic more sustainable than ever. Together the two of them aid any ailment that passes them, between her herbs and necromancy, and his arcana.

The clan Sarihlle ruled was filled with friendly dragons, who helped Luciel heal mentally – and learn that he was well deserving of friends and company. One of the first friends he made was the little dragon girl blessed with youth, Celeste. She gave him a lei of golden flowers as a token of her friendship.

"Here, Luciel. I made this for you. Never forget the light inside of you!"

It helped him find the strength to become someone new.

Sarihlle had stayed right by his side during his recovery, becoming the mother he never truly had. Although he was intimidated by her at first, he soon found security in her heart. She was a Guardian, much like his abusive mother; yet unlike his mother, he was not hated for being a Skydancer, for being frail, or for being himself. As a symbol of her love, she presented him with a wreath like hers, for him to remember his newfound alliance. He came to terms with the abuse he had faced, accepting that his blood mother had no power over him now. He was no killer for escaping her wrath. Now, he had a real mom, and a real family, who helped him become the dragon he always deserved to be.

"For so long, I had suffered. But now, I see there is no reason to suffer any longer. I have a place in Sornieth. I know I am loved. I am not evil. I have hope."

He had finally found the peace he had always desired – not in death, but in the brightest life he had ever experienced.
