A note from Mother

After your sister's aversion to the morning sun, I feared I should perhaps move to a shadier spot before you hatched, but it was too late. Already your shell was cracking and I thought to block your fragile body from the sun with my own body just as your little head popped out. You did not flinch away from the warm rays on your face as your sister did. In fact, you seemed to smile into them. The rest of you emerged and I had never seen a dragon that glimmered so beautifully in the light. Even you seemed fascinated by the way your wings and body sparkled, admiring the way you could cast light into the trees nearby just by lifting your wings. So opposite from your sister, but an equal treasure nonetheless.
