Hotaru

(My second unhatched egg; hatched.)


A bit of an alley tom cat, Hotaru had doubts of staying with the clan he was hatched in. There never was a female around that really appealed to him. He confided in Zirath one day. Thinking the old gal -he'd never call her that to her face!- could help him. Though, when he disrupted her at the forge, she threatened to cut off some things very special to him. He wondered about his decision. A few cool drinks of elder berry juice later though, Zirath cooled down enough for Hotaru to mumble out his thoughts. When he was done, the old gal eyed him a little while and then told him a plan. To announce that he was ready to settle down, but needed a mate and would be looking for one. He was doubtful at first and thought it silly. However, after a week of the announcement going out and familiars started to bring in replies, he wondered if it would actually work. For months, he read reply after reply and visited different clans to see the girls only to be discouraged They all ended up not being who they wrote about. Then one day, he read a reply that made him hopeful. It was a reply from a clan and not another highly interested female at all. And so he went to visit The Harbingers.

What he found was something he hadn't dared to hope. Blaine didn't act phony like others had. She was herself and confident about it. But that wasn't all that caught his eye. It was they way she was. Bold and confident, but with an attitude of equality to everyone. He liked that very much about her. He had lost count of the females who acted submissive about him, which always irritated him a bit. No, Blaine reminded him of home, of the clan. He then knew two things. Blaine was going to be his mate, and they would be going back to the Searing Spirit clan.

There was a problem though. The Harbingers asked for a tribute. Hotaru wasn't sure what to say, so he told them to send a few to come with Blaine and him, that they could talk to Zirath to work things out. In the end, he guess they did. Borvo, a wonderful snapper scribe for the clan, went with the entourage back to Blaine's now past clan. It wasn't unwillingly though. Old Borvo was enthralled with the visitors and their tales. And so when they left, she and her mate Conlaed went with them. It was kind of ironic.

None the less Hotaru was pleased. Blaine and the whole clan seemed happy, and the clan heard from the Flamecaller once more as she bestowed Blaine with a few gifts and even himself with one more. But then another gift was given. A vision to Blaine and him, of an aqua hatchling with bright questioning eyes, magenta wings lightly ruffled, and a glimmering fiery belly with fiery eyes.

While waiting the hatching of this special offspring, Hotaru enjoys being one of the resident hatchling protectors. This may also explain his newly acquired apparel. The male hatchlings want to play wild beastclans and the girls love to play dress up with him. Hey, how better to protect the hatchlings with them all around you where you can see them all? With this method he has caught and tossed Zizall into a bag more times than he can count, but refrains from hurting the mate of the Monarch's mother. Despite his efforts though, Zizall still manages to drag off quite a few hatchlings under the light of the moon.




Offspring will be limited: only one offspring will exist for each color and gene combo. Example: There is only remain one Aqua Clown / Magenta Eye Spots / Orange Glimmer offspring. Any others born of the exact combo will be leveled and then exalted.
