Biography
There once was a legend that told of a dragon that flew over a lake and saw how the sunbeams played through the small waves; that this dragon was so entranced by the white lines that the small wavelets created on the bottom of the lake that he stooped from the sky to dive under the surface to investigate how they looked from down there. In reality, that story was told as a cautionary tale... to prevent drownings from careless, bedazzled dragons. Augustus, however, took it differently. When he was old enough to fly unsupervised, he headed to where the sun was strongest in the Light domain, searching for a lake that would offer the same spectacle. He had no problems with his search and promptly dove straight to the distant bottom. |
The play of light across the sand was indeed mesmerizing, and Augustus quickly lost track of time as he rose for a breath only to dive again. Only when the sun set did Augustus drag himself to the shore for some well earned rest. His body ached, but his mind was alive with the swirls and random lines, so much so that they were all he could see when he closed his eyes. Despite his weariness, sleep did not come easily to the fascinated dragon, but eventually he slept. When he awoke, Augustus slid into the water to continue his observation. He spent hours again at this pursuit until someone joined him at the so far abandoned water's edge. Augustus was summoned to the sandy shore by a courier dressed in the colours of the Lightweaver, and the dragon quickly introduced herself as one of the God's Heralds. Apparently his diving had not gone unnoticed by the Lightweaver, and for his curiosity he was to be given a gift. The Herald handed Augustus a slim package and departed for the skies once more. Torn for a long moment between returning to the lake and opening the present, Augustus finally settled on opening the gift first. After all, one hardly ever got called upon by a Deity unless they were being asked to serve... He wasn't certain what he was expecting, but a bright flash of light and an indescribable sensation running over every inch of his hide was certainly not it! When he could finally see again, Augustus stepped towards the lake again, only to come up short. His hide! Instead of the shiny finish that it had borne before, now it was decorated by white swirls and lines! |

Augustus quickly took to the air to use the lake as a giant mirror. Sure enough, he could see similar patterns all over his body and wings. He was aghast, and hovered there for a long moment before bursting out into side splitting laughter. Instead of just watching the light play, now he *was* the light play! Augustus raised his head to the sky, turning himself to face the rumoured home of the Lightweaver and sang a praise to the Deity that had given him exactly the thing he wanted most. |
