Biography
Lane
Strategist Chessmaster | Quiet | Impulsive
Chess.
That's what she remembered from a young age. Chess. It was her life. Her father was a master of the game, and passed his skills onto Lane through both blood and lessons. However, she also found herself a better player than him at a young age. Her skill and age caused him to show her off as they traveled Sornieth. She was young an innocent, and just loved to show how she could control the direction of the game, often predicting checkmate from several moves in the future. Her opponents all thought there was a game, that her father controlled the game from elsewhere, had some kind of link to the hatchling. What she never realized, however, was that while she was in control of the games she played, her father used her skill to make treasure from others, playing up the possibility she was just a trick, or that she was merely a decent player who opponents underestimated. Of course, it was proven time and again there were no tricks or underestimation going on, and the bets and treasure died off, and the treasure she had almost relied upon for her travels ended. It didn't help that the betting got her father in trouble. She remembered him being taken away in front of her, and the world again thinking she was just a trick, that she helped her father earn money willingly, even though she hadn't the foggiest idea. The staring and muttering was too much. So Lane ended up separated from her father, in the charge of some dragons from another clan, asked to keep her head down, and use a false name. To the world of Chess, Lane simply disappeared. That didn't do for her, though. She kept up her game, even alone in the clan, and learned the meaning of combat. It was easy for others to think she was just a quiet, normal dragon, though, as her voice couldn't reach very far, even when she tried to shout.
