. Kept imprisoned for centuries, where he was subjected to terrible treatment, torture, and became an unwilling witness to countless hideous crimes, it's no surprise that Starfall came out of it a little unstable. Paranoid and afraid, he sees ghosts everywhere— in trailing wisps of nebulae, in the corners of the ship where the lighting flickers and the shadows gather, in his restless dreams which are never, ever silent. He's often still convinced that his (accidental) rescue is all a sham, believing the crew of the Polaris Dawn are working for his tormentor; that, at any moment, he'll be dragged back to some rusted hole in the ground. They tell him this isn't the case, they tell him Shockcore is dead and that the war's over, that he's safe now. But Starfall can't fully trust their words when he can hear the ominous Decepticon motto in the undertones:
"You are being deceived."
After enduring Shockcore's insidious whispers for untold years — promises to free him, claims he'd never hurt him, all broken carelessly, and the desperate hunger cracking his voice when he'd said, "You don't need this arm, you can spare a little for me," before ripping the limb off to devour it above him, crunching metal and warm energon — Starfall's lack of trust isn't totally unfounded. With no other option but to travel with Polaris Dawn and its crew, however, Starfall is trying to make do and survive. And all the while, he looks over his shoulder, keeps his guns close, and exhausts himself waiting for an attack that never comes. He was once a grounder but acquired a seeker frame for his spy work. He was once a lot of things. Competent, brave, loyal, and strong, he was heavily relied on by his fellow Autobots and capable of leading others well, but in the end he always preferred to work by himself. He was born under a meteor shower, an event symbolic with wishes and good luck... but the brightest stars fall the hardest, and Starfall burned alone.

. ✥ That the crew of Polaris Dawn came across him was entirely coincidence, something Cauterize in particular blames on Steelheart's stupidity - though he did remark that Starfall is perhaps the only one who should be thankful for that stupidity, as without it, they likely would have never fallen into Shockcore's trap and discovered his prisoner. ✥ Starfall owes a lot to Cauterize, the smallest member of their crew. The medic was the one who decided to bring him aboard the ship, despite knowing he was an Autobot, and worked hard to repair Starfall's numerous physical injuries, as well as removing the viruses that had been crippling his systems. As a result, Starfall has taken on the position of his assistant in an attempt to pay off his debt, and keeps himself busy helping Cauterize out in the medbay. Mostly, he does the more strenuous manual labour and gets things down off high shelves. Every little helps, right? ✥ He really doesn't get along that well with Steelheart, though that's mostly because Steelheart is petty and jealous of all the time Starfall gets to spend with Cauterize. And while he's (almost) totally harmless, Starfall finds Chillwave's friendly nature to be a touch too overly-familiar for his liking - he struggles to believe a Decepticon can act in such a manner without an ulterior motive and suspects Chillwave is trying to get him to lower his guard. But maybe he'll get used to him.
