By all appearances, Kalkaya is an honest merchant. She sells spices and trinkets and exotic goods, dealing fairly and openly with all comers. She's very good at being the upright shopkeeper, because she has to be.

Behind the scenes, though, Kalkaya is connected to some less-than-savory benefactors. All her goods come from the same source-- the pirate company the Sanguine Sirens. In exchange for providing her with merchandise, Kalkaya helps the Sirens distribute (and if necessary, liquidate) their less legal pieces.

Though she hasn't sailed with the Sirens herself in years, Kalkaya knows the trade routes and winds by heart, and is great with a cannon and not bad with a sword. She doesn't miss the seas, but she still considers them a part of her.
