Keli blinked into the freedom after cracking the shell of her egg open. She crawled out of her nest, away from her siblings, and ready to accept this huge world as her new home. She could not help but stare curiously at everyone and everything around her: at all the dragons who surrounded the nesting grounds, smiling at the new hatchlings that entered the world; at the walls of the cave in which she just hatched; at the tree of this sanctuary that attracted peaceful creatures of all kinds; at the Maren who played in the water surrounding the tree and its island it was standing on.
Keli began sniffing, inhaling all the strange scents that surrounded her. She wanted to catch as many of these new sensations as she could, securing them in her memory to forever preserve them. Her clan members, the beautiful flowers of the tree, the food other dragons were bringing into the cave system: there were so many things she wanted to investigate any further.
She began concentrating on the sounds that filled the sanctuary. The laughter of the Maren playing, the water of the underground lake splashing, the dragons talking to each other -- and a deep, soft purr that seemed to come out of a small niche in the nearby wall. Keli liked this sound, no, she really loved it. It gave her a warm feeling inside herself, and it relaxed her from her excitement about all these impressions she gathered.

She followed the purring to the niche and took a glimpse inside. A pair of amber eyes stared at her, and a small grin of the creature revealed some white, pointy teeth that seemed to glow in the dark.
"Who are you?", Keli asked in the humming language native to Coatls, and as if the creature was understanding and waiting for this question, it came out of its hideout. It had a sturdy body, light brown fur, and a long golden mane. The feline began circling the hatchling before it started rubbing its head on Keli's.
"Wow, you're so soft!", she whispered. The feline's purr got louder, which attracted the attention of another dragon.
"Hey, look, it's a Golden Bantam Fangar! They're quite rare!", the dragon shouted. Lots of heads turned to Keli and the Fangar, but before anyone could do anything, the cat jumped aside and ran out of the sanctuary. Keli wanted to follow the cat, but she was held back by an elder dragon. She wiggled in his firm grasp, trying to bite into his fingers, kicking and slapping him with her short legs and tail, but without success.
"No, please, come back!", she screeched, her eyes locked on the tunnel the feline used as escape route.

Keli was sobbing the rest of the day. Her parents and siblings tried to cheer her up, but she only wanted to see the Fangar again. And her wish was granted.
It was deep in the night when she heard that purr again. Keli lifted her head and looked around until she saw a soft glow next to the tunnel which lead outside to the upper world. She sneaked around the sleeping dragons, watching out not to wake up her family, as she got closer and closer to the cat.
"Do you want me to follow you?", she hummed as quietly as she could. The cat nodded, turned around, and started walking outside. It paused as it noticed that Keli was not following. She looked back at the dragons whose snoring were filling the cave system, then she followed the Fangar.

Their journey led them across Dragonhome. The feline taught Keli all its knowledge it had about stealth, fishing, and fighting, but it also found a way to communicate with her through a combination of humming and purring.
"So, what's next?", Keli asked happily as she was playing with the remains of a fish. She gained some size during their journey, and she was already larger than the Fangar, but still equally as lithe as the smaller cat. She also adopted so many of the cat's behaviors that other dragons they both met on their way were utterly confused about her whole appearance.
"It is time to part ways", the cat answered, "We are near the border to the Scarred Wasteland. I can not teach you anything new. You are ready to go your own way now."
"Wait, what?", Keli looked puzzled, "Are you being serious? How am I supposed to survive without you? I don't even know this territory!"
"Trust your instincts, use everything I taught you, but most importantly: have trust in yourself and your skills. You will find your way, even if you do not see it yet."

The Coatl did not know what to do with this answer, but she trusted her tutor, said goodbye, and entered the Plague territory. She wandered around aimlessly, looking for any signs she could use to find her way, and also hoping to find a new family. She stumbled across a few cats and made friends with them, and together they continued their travel.
Keli met some clans and asked their leaders to join them, but they always sent her away as they did not trust her with all the cats by her side. Disappointed, and with dwindling hope, she carried on with her search.

One day, near the Wyrmwound, she heard a voice coming out of a tree.
"What cute little cats you have!"
A female Nocturne floated down and landed next to Keli.
"Hi, I'm Nahkipfahdon! What are you doing here all alone? Do you have family? Oh, what am I saying, of course you have, we all have family, don't we? Do you want to join us? I'm sure our leader will accept you as new member!"
Keli slightly opened her mouth. She did not quite understand what the Nocturne was saying as she never got the chance to learn common draconic, but she did understand that the Nocturne was quite excited about something. Luckily, Nahkipfahdon knew some phrases of the Coatls' native tongue, and she was able repeat her questions.
Keli got brought to the clan leader where, with the help of another Coatl who translated her request, she asked if she could join the clan. The leader agreed, but only if Keli would be able to pass a test he had prepared.

Keli succeeded, and she became a full member of the clan. She now helps Nahkipfahdon with taking care of the familiars, especially the feline ones, but she also teaches stealth tactics she once learned from the Golden Bantam Fangar to the hunters and scouts.
