Ember arrived at the clan when it was in its fledgling stages. Her brother Rainier was a bit of an introvert, so she made an effort to introduce themselves to the other clan members. She started collecting small items of gossip, and became a confidante for other Dragons. Her bright personality earned her many friendships, and was soon a bit of a social butterfly.

She met James, who was interested in chemistry and the alchemical arts. She soon helped him with creating his first theoretical textbook. She knew who to ask for paper and ink, and buttered up the scavengers with other bits and pieces after trading with other dragons. Regardless, James’s book eventually gets finished, and in possibly the most clichéd manner, they start their courtship immediately after. She was a little alarmed at his laidback attitude to start with, but as she grew older, and grew busier, she appreciated how nice it was to return to a calm home. Between them, they seemed to balance well. It also helped that he had the most stunning wings she had ever seen: deep blue that shifted into a richer tone, and patterned like a butterfly. He'd indulge her by letting her stare at them as he worked. (Often stretching them for her to gawk, and he'd always laugh and continue working.)

A few other Dragons ask for her help in bookmaking, including Evewern, and she starts to set up a shop for books. She soon realised that she wasn’t doing it for money, however. She wanted to keep the spark of learning alight within the clan, so shut the shop and turned it into a local, simple, library instead.

She gathered information from more and more Dragons as they joined the clan – often sitting down for a chat, then walking away with a handful of notes about a variety of topics a few hours later. Yusra, Lavrenti, and Newt offer up guides on familiars and other beasts; James, Dani, and Venus write a strange mixture of chemical, alchemical, and necromantic texts; and Nocturne and Eddie start a friendly rivalry in healing texts, with Sally, Angel, Ana, and Rika providing counterpoints to the debate.

It is when the clan settles in its final location that she rolls her metaphorical sleeves up. Requesting the aid of Haven, she constructs a Grand Library within the South Eastern corner of the Clan – which later becomes the Arcane and Science Quarter. It becomes a sanctuary of learning, and partnering with the Mage Academy next door, becomes a bastion of discovery for generations to come.

For her own personal project, she enlists Mefus, Patrick, and Ruza into creating the history of the clan - with a few exaggerated exploits by Ruza to add flavour. In her later years, she hires her own assistant, Monarch, to help with the work load.

Her work with the library keeps her busy, as does James’s work, so they never have any hatchlings of their own. Sometimes in the quieter moments they both ponder what it would be like to raise their own family. The closest they both get to parenthood is allowing Amyr, James's apprentice, to live with them when he's older to continue his training, but... She always wonders.
