xxxxxEvery day I spent with my old clan, I heard the same thing. "My eyes! My eyes!" "I might be going blind from looking at him!" "He should go back to the cave he was mined from!" To my old clan, I was a blemish. They were so normal and looked so similar while I... Well, I wasn't any of that at all.

xxxxxFrom the day I was born, my parents tried to keep me in our lair at all times. They didn't want any dragons from the outside world to see me. They never told me why, though, so I was stuck in our lair for years wondering what I did wrong. Then one day, I wandered outside when my parents were out hunting for food. It wasn't my greatest decision.

xxxxxThe dragons I met were appalled at my appearance. Some shrieked in confusion and terror, others only shot the dirtiest looks at me. I didn't know what I did wrong, though. I didn't even say anything yet! Was it the way I was walking? Was something on my face? Or on my wings? I turned to check, only to see the feathers that covered my little body sparkling in the morning sun.

xxxxxTo me, it was an amazing sight. I didn't know dragons could shimmer like this! But when I turned back to the dragons surrounding me, my astonishment quickly faded. Mothers were keeping their children from coming any closer, shielding their eyes, even. Elders grumbled foul language to one another, their nostrils flaring.

xxxxxBefore the negativity engulfed me even more, I turned and bolted back to my lair, hiding in a dark corner. I didn't want to leave again after the reactions my brilliant feathers omitted from the public. But at the same time, it filled me with wonder. I was a sparkling dragon.

xxxxxIt was another few years before I finally left my lair, looking to start my own clan. The idea of being the same, bland dragons was sickening to me, and I wouldn't stand for it. I wanted to start a clan of dragons that were practically exiled for looking strange or bizarre. It was at this time I met Veri, a beautiful dragon with the most impressive set of wings I had ever laid eyes on.

xxxxxWe both had the same dream, the same plan: begin a clan of dragons who were otherwise considered outcasts, give them a place to feel safe, welcomed, at home. Many would think it's a crazy idea for a young couple in love, but I know that as long as me and Veri work together, we can achieve anything.
