The tunneling took months. Jectoma had wanted to expand the lair, now that he had the Plaguebringer's approval, and the only option he saw fit was 'down'. So down they went. Dirt turned to clay. Clay turned to rocks. But still they dug, excavating caverns that would turn into homes, stashing food away in niches and corners in case the tunnels turned against them, holding their breath in terror with every pitter-patter of a rainstorm above.

Half a year in, they went through a wall. It was not a wall they had made, nor a wall they knew of, but it was undeniably a wall, what with the fact that it separated two spaces. That is, after all, the definition of a wall. On the other side of that wall was a cavern. A lake stagnated below, not a ripple disturbing the glassy surface. Above hung stalactites, looking for all the world like the teeth of an enormous beast. Claw marks furrowed the shore of the water.
Wisely, the tunnelers decided to talk to Jectoma before continuing.

Nobody knew what to expect when they stepped through the broken wall into the cavernous space below. A monster, perhaps, or a new fishing area. Maybe a pod of Maren, waiting to defend themselves. Maybe a secret base for one particular son of the Tidelord. With such expectations in mind, Caedis and Aethos picked their way through the ruts, intent on reaching water. A step away from the lake, something changed.
There was light. Not a bright light, nor a dim light, but the kind of light one would not expect in the center of a cave a hundred lengths from the surface. Yes, that kind of light. It rose from the water, swaying gently, freezing the two scouts where they stood.
Next rose a head, bluer than the deepest ocean, guardian-esque in appearance. Streaks of yellow ran across the unknown face, and two eyes narrowed, their azure shade telling of an oceanic past.
Caedis was the first to speak, offering a calm greeting. His words echoed through the chamber, but were not graced with a reaction, only the tiniest of inquisitive head tilts. In the silence, they studied each other.
The first movement came from Aethos, bored of the action and lack thereof. Her claw was a heartbeat away from touching the water, and in that beat the creature lunged, snarling.
A mighty webbed paw flung the wildclaw a safer distance away, far from the now-rippling lake, and the two scouts decided not to do any further testing of the beast's boundaries.

They left, and the guardian sunk beneath the surface once more, satisfied that her charge was safe.
-
Though disappointed that so much pre-dug space is unusable, Jectoma has allowed the cavern to be roped off and guarded so that the lake remains untouched, as it appears to agitate the inhabitant when anyone attempts to swim or drink. He hopes one day to attempt further communication.

Quote:
These pure gen 2 children are members of a guardian subspecies of sorts, which feature aquatic colours and bodies modified for life in the water.
Tidesworn guardians are adept swimmers, but flight is not possible for them. Additionally, (for those with shapeshifting lore,) they are not able to switch into a full humanoid form and instead keep a draconic look - becoming bipedal at best.

Important: all Tidesworn guardians have charges that relate to water! A particular lake? That could be a charge! A seashell, a fish? Those could also be charges! A boat? You bet! That bottle of water your dragon is about to drink? Also a possibility!

These kids need water to live a happy life, and will wind up drawn to it one way or another.
